Re: Uh oh nutnfancy spreading misinformation...

Hi hunter seeker, thanks for the followup response. I am not good at separating quotes on here so I'm going to interject a few observations and questions within your quote that I will just type in red text. No, it isn't fish guts. If you assume everyone who presents evidence is lying, or highly uni...

Re: Uh oh nutnfancy spreading misinformation...

No, it isn't fish guts. If you assume everyone who presents evidence is lying, or highly unintelligent, you'll only ever be able to reach one conclusion. The edge has never been sharpened, nor do there appear to be any spots of corrosion on the bevel. They are all on the laser work (logo, etc) and u...

Re: Uh oh nutnfancy spreading misinformation...

There is a lot of chearleading, personal attacks, and un-helpful commentary going on in this thread. I've owned half a dozen H1 knives, and none of them rusted, including a USN Catcherman. My wife owns two, a DFII and a USN catcherman. She took said catcherman on an oceanography survey, where it was...

Re: Soap and water cleaning

Knife comes back to me today. New stop pin, earlier lockup, super smooth action, and it looks like someone cleaned it while it was there too. I'm certainly happy. :D While I can understand such an adventure would be frustrating and isn't ideal, from a practical perspective I respect the honest inte...

Re: Soap and water cleaning

Whew, what an adventure. I hate it when threads like this aren't updated with a resolution, so I've been keeping this tab open all this time waiting to update. I'll also put this post in the OP so people don't have to read through all these pages. So I contacted Charlynn, and she indicated that this...

Re: Whyyy, dodo disappointment

My Dodo has always been smooth as well. Beyond the technical characteristics of steel, I honestly don't know what to tell you. I don't know why some of these BBLs are much much MUCH more stubborn than others. God knows Spyderco produces a lot of the Manix model. Mine would get mildly stuck, lubricat...

Re: Whyyy, dodo disappointment

I'm not an engineering-type but a BBL seems to have far more places to bind than say a RIL. The friction from a ball bearing to a hardened blade spine should be very low even devoid of lubrication. However, if it's off a bit I can see how it would be a problem. Unfortunately it just isn't the case....

Re: Whyyy, dodo disappointment

As someone who loves to speculate about technical issues..... I have two things I think it likely is, or rather are contributing to it. 1) relative angle of locking components. Basically the closer to parallel your locking surfaces are, the less rearward force you're going to apply to the bearing to...

Re: Mule Team flipping

I still fail to see how flipping mules hurts the intent of the program any more than folks buying two and shelving one for a rainy day. Similarly those that buy a mule just to display it on a shelve. 1) Because the flippers often have more than two for sale. 2) Because there appear to be a lot more...

Re: Mule Team flipping

How about a simpler fix, something which will require minimal increased effort on Spyderco's part? So lets exclude the basic market approach, which is to either A) remove the scarcity of the product to drive down prices (make more mules) or B) remove some of the perception of scarcity (state that mu...

Re: Review and photoshoot of the Spyderco Lil' Lionspy: Prt.

FWIW the Lum Tanto Folder sprint of a couple years ago used PTFE washers as I recall. Also, while I have no idea what they come with now, my Resilience came with one white washer which I assumed (based on feel) was PTFE. Could be wrong though. Not nitpicking, just trying to add information. :) Great...

Re: Title change:Not impressed with Spyderco Delica 4

What was baffling me wasn't that someone couldn't figure out lint was caught in their lock mechanism, what baffled me was how the OP was so certain it was NOT that. While your argument holds to an extent, that is to say someone with less knowledge wouldn't recognize something which would be obvious...

Re: Title change:Not impressed with Spyderco Delica 4

So I'm a bit baffled by this. It is very easy to judge someone at fault for being what we would conclude is obvious ignorance because we, the enlightened few, have the knowledge. However it is rare that the same individuals would feel that it is ok to reverse the situation upon them if they failed ...

Re: Received my 204p PM2 Second

I personally would use just a touch of lapping compound. That way you're not just randomly sanding things, you're polishing them to fit. The results are spectacular. ;)

Re: Spyderco Pacific Salt helps christen my new boat

No comment on the boat, but the fish looks outstanding. :) Are serrations your first choice though for dressing a fish? I personally would struggle, preferring a PE blade with a bit more sweep to it. (such as the *gasp* catcherman or south fork)

Re: Let's talk about the upcoming phil wilson b&t (sprig)

I would like to revisit geometry momentarily, if you'd allow me, in part inspired by this quote which I think launched a very reasonable discussion: That does not appear to be a trout; nevertheless, I am impressed at your proactive move to commission a custom from the collaborator. Do Spyderco make ...

Re: I figured out why my millie was off center

I find it really hard to believe the pocket clip was somehow putting that much pressure on anything to cause an off centered blade. As rugged as this knife is. Mine is a user and locks up tighter than any other folder I have owned. Are these models lacking a steel liner on the clip side??? You and ...

Re: Title change:Not impressed with Spyderco Delica 4

So I'm a bit baffled by this. A lot of forum members here are a little too quick to jump on people who have had issues with Spyders. That said, do you have an alternative hypothesis as to why the lock wasn't functioning? Did you even look? As someone who is much more interested in the technical aspe...

Re: Polished Carbon fiber dings! Rubicon help!

I'll just add that, as a lazy person, I'd use the buffing wheel on a rotary tool rather than polish by hand. You can use either a super fine abrasive, or the aforementioned wax, to keep things looking snazzy. Fair warning though, if you do use abrasives, consider masking the pivot area because you d...
