Liner and frame lock longevity

I had an experience with a liner lock recently that's caused me to question the longevity of this style of lock. After a moderate amount of use, the ball on the lock bar had worn to a point that the detent was insufficient to keep the blade from moving while folded. The total travel of the blade tip...

Re: More bead blasted spydercos?

It could be the bead blasted finish that kept the adhesive from bonding as tightly on your Kershaw. The rougher surface could mean less contact area between steel and adhesive, at least initially. The relatively low areas between the peaks created by the blasting process could also harbor more dirt ...

Re: S125V, S90V, BG-42 and 440C - material properties

Cliff, I have been doing some reading on Cobalt in steels recently trying to determine why some stainless steels have small amounts of Cobalt... I'm just curious, were any of the papers you came across by Gary Michal? I had a conversation with him about the very same topic a few years back and the m...

Maybe it's because I've been carrying lockback Spydercos since I got my first Endura, Delica, and Rescue in Zytel in the 90s, but I've never had any problems operating any Spyderco lockback I've ever owned with one hand. This includes the delica. With the spyderhole, it's extremely easy to control ...

I'd always assumed black blades were more intimidating to NKP since they have that tactical/mall ninja look to them. I was surprised when my wife looked at pictures of a knife in satin and black and said the black blade looked much less scary, primarily because it didn't stand out (visually) as much...

Thanks for the warm reception and kind words. I don’t know of any made-after date that indicates a fix, only that I’ve heard one has been implemented. I have heard specifically that the pink handled squeaks don’t have this problem. Buckthorn, pushing something into the handle to accomplish the same ...

Squeak 1st run tip blunting fix

Prior to buying my squeak, I read a few reviews that raised the issue of the design allowing the blade to compress a little further into the handle than it should when the knife is closed. If the blade is squeezed against the handle it can travel until the tip contacts the backspacer, rolling the ed...

Just a thought, but it seems like it might a natural result of being right-handed. Since most of us tend to hold knives in our right hands (assuming Spyderco doesn't hold some unusually great appeal for lefties), we also tend to see our knives almost exclusively from the left side of the blade. Spen...
