Re: Legality of Non-Metallic Self-Defense Items?
I've taken to carrying walking sticks when I'm on travel. If we are going to an area for hiking, I carry my carbon fiber collapsible hiking sticks. But, if I'm going somewhere less outdoorsy, I'll carry my BlackSwift stick. They are extremely light weight and incredibly sturdy and durable. Several c...

Re: Carrying an old favorite makes me want Spyderco to relaunch the Superleaf
Big fan of the SuperLeaf. Because of the lock and large shape, this has become my go-to gardening knife. I can safely deploy it and close it with one gloved hand. Excellent ergonomics.

Re: Lupe: Asking for advice / recommendations please
Hi Gernot, I use a Belomo 10x Triplet Loupe Magnifier. 21mm. I think they’re as good as you’ll likely buy for the price and well worth considering. :) I'll second the Belomo suggestion, optically it's very good and the larger the lens element, the bigger your field of view. There are others that ar...

Re: Anticipation: For The GAUNTLET & GALLEY V kits??
Well I'm just like you in wondering when ( if ever) we are going to finally get to test drive these new sharpening tools of Spyderco's? I've been waiting for and anticipating the GAUNTLET for the past two years now. A good friend of mine was at the 2017 BLADE Show and he said that the Spyderco boot...

RIP Brother
I just returned from a long trip to my home town. In early December, my younger brother was diagnosed with liver failure and unfortunately, he passed away on December 30 at the age of 55. I was with him when he died and he passed away peacefully in his sleep. It was a tough time for all of us. After...

Re: In need of Para 2/3 lanyard dimensions
Just a point about removing the tube. I've made replacement scales for half a dozen Para2 knives, and the lanyard tube can be kind of tricky to extricate. Lots of folks try to grab the tube with pliers and it ends up scratching or deforming the thing. The best way of pushing it through is to use a q...

Re: What was your first Spyderco?
First gen Worker. Followed by a first gen Delica. The Worker accidentally ended up at the bottom of Sportsman Lake. Still have the Delica.

Re: What should I buy to practice sharpening on?
How about a mora? Realatively cheap but a good useable fixed blade. Personally, I just won’t buy garbage, it just encourages them to make more. If you can wait a little while, that bow river would be perfect. Being a long-time SpyderFanatic, I hate to recommend something outside... But you might lo...

Re: Spyderco Calypso Jr. Sprint Run Knife Gray (Aogami Super Blue)
Mine arrived today. Sigh... The Caly Jr. is my favorite Spydie and it is great to see another member added to the family (I have all the models except for the SE VG-10). Thanks for the pics, Radioactive! For me, the Caly Jr. is the epitome of the whole "Calypso Family Tree". Lightweight, l...

Wow! Makes me feel like a total piker with only 300 or so... (not counting sharp things used for woodworking, like plane irons, chisels, and gouges...)

Re: Why no steel strops?
Keep in mind that sharpening steels and steel strops are two very different animals - that accomplish two very different objectives. Steel strops are smooth, like Sal proposes (the Cat's eye designs are my favorite, Sal! Wish I still had my original "Galley Vee" sharpener!) They are used o...

Re: Spyderco Saw?
I remember having one of those Spydersaws years ago. You are right that the points were impulse hardened and not sharpenable - similar to most other Japanese saws today. Mine actually broke during some extended limb cutting during Scout camp. I replaced it with a couple of low-end Buck folding saws,...

Re: Interesting spalting in tamarind board
I've used spalted tamarind a few times and usually get it from a local hardwood vendor. I'm using it to build jewelry chests and other small items, so it isn't stabilized. It has a tendency to move a lot with humidity levels, so if you are going to use it on something like knife scales, it would be ...

Re: Interesting spalting in tamarind board
Thanks, Landon! My Brother gave me a small aser engraver for Christmas that works on wood and leather. I was hoping that the Spydie outline would be a bit heavier/darker so that it would stand out from the spalting on the wood, but it kind of blends in. Almost like a stealth logo...

Interesting spalting in tamarind board
I bought some spalted tamarind wood this week from my local hardwood dealer. Check out this interesting spalting when I re-sawed one of the boards!
