Re: AFI Performance Flash Batch

As others have said, VG-10 makes the most sense.
Can't wait!!

Re: FRN Scales (?)

Cool!!
I've been asking for a "standard" Mule for a while... I always assumed it would be VG-10, or S30V... Great news!

Re: OK, it's time to get serious

I do have to ask, why is the tip/hump so massive(compared to centofante iv etc)? I know it gives you another place to hold, but it doesn't get in the way? The blade height created by the "hump" allows a much shallower primary grind angle, while still keeping enough stock thickness at the ...

Re: There's something missing here...

I can't believe they haven't made a ti-slabbed PM2... There was a ti integral compression-lock prototype floating around a few years ago, that was apparently not supposed to have been "leaked"... I wonder if the powers that be are a bit miffed with their titanium vendor over the leak? Seem...

Variations of the lightweight Chaparral perhaps? That has quite a thin slicey blade.
Whats the blade stock thickness of the chaparral?
2mm, iirc.

Re: AFI Performance Flash Batch

This is about "performance", not "exclusivity", imho... Delica first. It's a known quantity, so the differences will be available to everyone to evaluate. The platform is cost-effective enough that people will use them, instead of hoarding them, and we can see if the option has m...

If the handle was a little bit longer, or maybe a 50/50 choil was added, the Delica would be (my) perfect sub 3" knife.
Are you familiar with Boomer52s GrindMod Delica scales?

Probably a clue that they'll be there soon, then. I assume they're creating the product listings, and left them "live" by mistake...?

I expect he's got them, then.
I've never ordered from them, but I have bought from them in person.
It's definitely a reputable source.

Check out the "Grand Unified Grit Chart" over at blade forums. The supporting thread had a pretty in-depth discussion about where to place the ceramics, based on scratch-pattern comparisons.

Excellent write-up! I don't have one yet, but I will probably get one at some point... Haven't bought much this past year, but I'm gonna snag a Drunken as soon as I find one in stock, and then hold off till I hear more about the new kitchen knives.

Re: Mantra Detent Ball

Welcome to the forum. The Delica is different, for the purposes of this discussion. The back-spring is what provides the closing pressure, and the "kick" is what is supposed to stop the blade from closing on the edge... If something is wrong, and the edge is hitting first, it will obviousl...

Re: Mantra Detent Ball

I wonder what the production process is like for detent balls/bearings. Ive gotta speculate that batch heat treating these tiny things uniformly is a difficult process.
I would also speculate that this example isn't the standard offering, as far as hardness goes...

Re: Massdrop R. Laconico Keen

I saw where somebody mentioned the Keen was thin behind the edge. So last night I was getting to know my new Keen a little better and, after doing some cutting on a maple block, I decided to take some measurements behind the edge. So I got out my dial calipers and carefully measured the shoulder un...

Re: Hard truths and observations

Was U.S. Steel for high end exacting Spyderco standards like that in the Late 1970's and early 1980's? I ask because it occurred to me in another thread concerning the Hunter knife from around 1981 ( Which has CQI Evolved into the Superb Stretch2) the steel was a Japanese G2 steel. I had no idea Sp...

Hi Mattman,

I'm pretty sure that's functional. It rides alongside a spring as a stop when the knife is closed. There was a lot of engineering that went into the Autonomy. Some patented.

Thank you.

Sal-

I'm not looking at the plunge line in those pics... I'm looking at the material that appears on the kick, that looks like it was left by an endmill...? Is that a functional detail?

Re: Massdrop R. Laconico Keen

I agonized over this for a week or so, as all the reviews were excellent, but I have a "made in China" hangup, when it comes to knives (actually, it's more of a "any brand that's not Spyderco" hangup). I caved, because I'm enamored with the contoured profile of the Slycz Bowie, a...
