That looks like it plays as smooth as silk. My only bass at the moment is my Peavey T40; I'm more of a six string guy.

Never had one apart, but isn't the surface of what Spyderco refers to as the "fixed anvil" against which the top of the ball rides concave? http://www.spyderco.com/pix/edgeucation/knifeanatomy/bblock.jpg If so, then it the ball would be held "centered" by it. That would be comfo...

I'm not sure mine is covered by warranty, I'm not the original owner.

Yes but the cage itself is only controlling lateral pressure. The lion share of the force is being pushed upwards rather than out. As JNewell said the amount of Spyderco knives on the market and the lack of cut fingers due to lock failures is amazing. It says a ton for the quality of product being ...

Since it is a ball bearing, if the ramp (or flat area) that it rolls on to when the knife is locked, is not absolutely true (level from side to side) the ball may deflect to one side or another. This is the only thing that concerns me regarding the caged ball lock. Seems to me that the only thing k...

Hmm, just received a Manix 2 in a trade, hopefully I'll have better luck with the 154cm than you did.

It just depends on how regularly you maintain your edge. My problem with 154cm was i thought it felt "gummy"...that's the best way i can describe it. When i sharpened it, it was like i could feel how soft it was, and i've never worked with a steel that burred up as bad and as easily. Then...

With a little fiddling I've got it working fairly well now. There's just a hint of horizontal play but it's within the acceptable range as far as I'm concerned(very slight). I believe that it was caused by both the pivot and rocker screws being a bit too tight or out of concert. Thanks for the help ...

In a "worse case scenario" it's best to contact either New Graham Knives for a replacement or Spyderco Warranty and Repair to see if something can be done, especially if it's brand new. I have a Spyderco Chinook 3 and as far as I can tell it functions as a lockback should. My first feelin...

Yeah you're probably right about the adjustments fixing the off-center blade.

That's exactly what I ended up doing. Oddly enough the blade seems more centered in the closed position since the switch.

The Deacon wrote:My Chinook III is a very early one and, while the spring tension is not as great as on some other models, it self closes reliably from anything under about 1.5" open. Did you purchase the knife new from a dealer?
Brand new from NGK. Maybe it's the weight of the blade slowing it down?

A weak closing detent is not needed to facilitate easy opening. My D4 snaps shut like a mousetrap and it is still as easy to swing the blade out as day one. You want a good hold in the closed position so you don't experience opening in the pocket as you mentioned you had. That's much more dangerous...

It's dead smooth.

I just got a new Chinook 3 about a week ago, and the closed blade retention is not quite as strong as others, but it's still adequate. Mine definitely snaps closed when 1/2" open. Mine stays open about 1 1/2" open. Have you tried adjusting and lubing the pivot? Maybe it can be improved wi...

Chinook 3 question(problem?)

I just received a Chinook 3 and am wondering how much pressure is there supposed to be holding the blade in the closed position? The blade somehow opened in my pocket today(odd for a lockback) and when closing the blade there doesn't seem to be any real snap towards the closed position(In fact I can...
