Swick redesign
I have been trying to find my ideal edc defensive knife. I've made several different models, then thought I might try remodeling my swick. This is what I came up with. It's straight out of heat treat so I've got a bit of work left to do. But what do you think? I like the ergonomics and esthetics bet...

Re: Yakut - For the ethnic series
I suspect it is for the same reason that Japanese chisels have hollow backs. Flattening the entire surface area of a fully-flat back is much more laborious in time and stone-wear than for a blade with a hollowed portion. Quicker and easier when hollow ground. Some of the wider Japanese chisels will...

Re: Yakut - For the ethnic series
Yeah. It's the groove and the grind that sets it apart.

Yakut - For the ethnic series
I have recently started investigating and making Yakut (or possibly Saha) knives, and am ridiculously impressed with their performance. Consequently, I think it'd be a great addition to the ethnic series. The yakut has a flat face with a groove on one side, and a convex face on the other. This chise...

Re: 5,000th post Giveaway !!!
I'm in, but I'd like to re-gift the mule if I win. If my number is chosen, I'll run another random number contest to give the mule to someone who has a family member deployed over seas. We would then ship the knife to that soldier as a belated Christmas gift from the forum and the winner. I'll pick ...

Re: MT23P - Mule Team Fixed Blade with CPM 20CV
Sounds like a winner. Not an unusual steel by any means, but a great chance to own a 20cv knife at that price point.

Re: Made my own version of the Swick
Nice concept. What ergos would you change on the next go round? I would try to find a way to widen the handle below the hole. As it is, the middle and ring fingers have to close a lot more than the first and pinky fingers, and that makes the grip feel unnatural when you're making power cuts (like w...

Made my own version of the Swick
Firstly, let me say that I made this strictly for myself and will not sell it or any like it. That needs to be said because parts of it are almost an exact copy of a Spyderco Swick. I really like the swicks, but I wanted one that was a bit bigger for having around camp or whatever. This is what I ca...

Re: Stropping suggestion for Edge Pro users
That's interesting. I've been getting my best results with the blocks I made. I haven't used the polish tapes since making them. I would imagine that the polish tapes and super fine stones would work better than stropping if you can maintain perfectly consistent edge angles. For me the EP isn't desi...

Re: Stropping suggestion for Edge Pro users
Sorry to drudge up an old thread, but I recently made a couple strops for my Edge Pro and am thrilled with how well they work. In researching the project I found this thread and figured I'd tag on in case someone else wanted to make their own as well. You could simply buy a blank and glue leather on...

Re: CS Exclusive Orange Paramilitary 2 DLC CTS-XHP
Just a heads up. Jeff said that these knives will be going up in price as they start to sell out. He said that it's an attempt to keep the eBay flippers at bay. So don't wait thinking they might drop in price later on.

Re: CS Exclusive Orange Paramilitary 2 DLC CTS-XHP
Holy freaking home run batman! This is the first spyderco that's taken my breath away as soon as I unboxed it. Bar none, this is my favorite color combo. The orange is fantastic and the DLC is wicked. I want to use the crap out of it but I'm afraid of getting it dirty...quite the dilemma. If they go...

Re: CS Exclusive Orange Paramilitary 2 DLC CTS-XHP
It's funny. I just got off the phone with Jeff and asked him if he thinks the server will handle the traffic. He said, "Oh yeah, unless we're way underestimating the response." Well, guess what. Lol.
Here's hoping.

Here's my 4V mule. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v297/cardwelc/Knife%20Stuff/1062AC72-18A4-465A-89FD-C22C2C0D5771.jpg The bolsters are stainless steel and are dovetailed. I'm not pleased with the joint between the bolsters and the wood, too much epoxy got between the two and created a shadow. In...

Mine have never moved. Primarily because I never use them. They stay nice and snug in their horizontal slots.

Re: Mule Team 21
I'm making some dovetailed bolsters and scales for my 4v mule right now, and recording the process. Hopefully by the end I'll have a video tutorial to share. If so, I'll post the link here.
