I have that problem with the Aqua Salt sheath - 2 of them. It's a well made sheath, but it's made with the wrong material. I have the PE model, and I like it well enough... except for the sheath problem already mentioned. The sheath is FRN, and it dulls the knife edge from contact. If you're getting one for the tackle box, you could get a small pocket stone to with it. I've seen Spyderco gray stones for like $6 at Cutle...

I don't think that they would leave them out to make cleaning easier, since Spyderco discourages disassembling their folders (it voids the warranty). The reason I mention it is that stiff, thin plastic (clambshell) doesn't want to spread apart as the saber grind blade cuts through it.
