>>> Spyderco did a nice job of strengthening the pacific salt point without compromising tip performance. Compared to the older style Endura tip, performance is compromised. I would look heavily at the Caspian Salt. A fixed blade is easier to "open" while under stress, and the design of th...

I have that problem with the Aqua Salt sheath - 2 of them. It's a well made sheath, but it's made with the wrong material. Marion David Poff is a member here, and he makes custom sheaths, if you want to look in to it. http://marioncarry.blogspot.com Also, if your sheath doesn't have that problem, do...

I have the PE model, and I like it well enough... except for the sheath problem already mentioned. The sheath is FRN, and it dulls the knife edge from contact. If you're getting one for the tackle box, you could get a small pocket stone to with it. I've seen Spyderco gray stones for like $6 at Cutle...

Current knife of choice is the warrior or the rock salt, although I've actually been thinking about a spear of some sort. Something that could stay in a sheath until out of sight of the parking lot, then get installed on a "walking stick". The Cold Steel Assegai with the short shaft will ...

I think the Cricket would probably work. It's got the tiny bill, but the overall shape doesn't look unfriendly.

Of course, the trainer models would probably work, too. :)

>>> that is one of the reasons why i suggested the wave rescue, sometimes speed counts and that is the fastest deployable knife out there (anything with the wave).

But don't you now carry a Jumpmaster? Bet that opens quicker than a wave.

An EMT that I talked to only used trauma shears, because he didn't need to worry about decontaminating them if they got nasty. He just threw them away and got a new pair from stock.

I don't think that they would leave them out to make cleaning easier, since Spyderco discourages disassembling their folders (it voids the warranty). In this case, it's probably an ease of manufacturing issue, since it's been stated in the past that the reason for switching to screw construction on ...

If it's just one, I'd pick the yellow serrated Aqua Salt. PE would be easier to sharpen, but I'd like the serrations in case I needed to saw through something.

JaM, you can have the blade re-ground on a stainless Delica.

Also, if your into byrd knives, the Meadowlark 2 SS has an FFG blade.

The reason I mention it is that stiff, thin plastic (clambshell) doesn't want to spread apart as the saber grind blade cuts through it. This is only relevant if you are cutting the plastic by penetrating the material and then slicing. When you slice stuff like this, or cardboard, don't hold the kni...

Unless you're getting ready for a trip overseas in the near future, I wouldn't buy a knife based on "someday". What you buy now may not be acceptable wherever you go in the future.
