Why this plastic instead of FRN?

Re: The Astute
I love the look & feel of this knife, but not a fan of the steel. If keeping it in the Chinese Spyderco factory, I'd love to see some of the other steels that Chinese companies are using. I think Nitro V or Sandvik 14C28N would be a nice step up without increasing the price too much. There was ...

Re: The Astute
Can anyone tell me what clip the Astute is using? https://i.imgur.com/caWuFmbl.jpeg At first blush it looks like the standard 3 hole with lanyard whole as seen on the Delica family (6.8mm spacing between the outer holes). But it’s not. It’s 8.5mm between outer holes and the top hole is offset 2.5mm....

Re: The Astute
Hey does anyone recognize the clip pattern on the Astute? It’s not the Tenacious style. Its clearly from some other model because it has a hole for a lanyard hole that isn’t placed there.

Re: The Astute
Mine is a bit stiff to open, though it will probably break in with use. I took mine apart several times to tune the liner lock. I think that was part of the issue. The only real negative I can find is weight, I'd love for this design to be lighter. Someone out there skeletonized theirs with a drill...

Re: AI art knows Spyderco
So long as AI does not infringe (intellectual property; job opportunities), Job opportunities? Technology always eliminates jobs. Have you seen a car factory lately? It may create new job opportunities but on the whole it’s rare to see an increase in low skilled jobs when a technology takes hold. E...

Re: The Astute
One of the best designs to come out of Spyderco in years, and it's a shame it was part of the value line. It deserves a better steel. I dunno, it's been around a few years now so it must be selling ok. If it weren't in the Value line it would be at least $150 and probably would have shot its shot b...

The Astute
I posted about this in one of the recent mega threads, but it's pretty buried there and I've been carrying this for a bit and figured I'd start a thread about it. Ok, so this is a "small" knife in the value line. It's actually a 3" blade but the blade and body are quite narrow. In ter...

Re: Any recommendations?
If your locale permits it, a fixed blade may eliminate your ergonomic struggles with locking mechanisms.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2024 Report
For everyone worried the Charisma will immediately shatter during use, that’s thicker than 3 disposable utility razor blades. It’s not something you’d sell at Walmart next to the Gerber machetes but as an enthusiast blade it should be fine.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2024 Report
While it looks cool, the RIL Tenacious seems like a knife that will miss some marks, based on 8Cr13 or D2 steel, non-deep carry clip and what I'd guess will be a over $100 price point. I don’t think the frame lock Tenacious is going to have a low end steel, there’s a whole thread about it where Sal...

I think sword people use wax based products. The chapstick idea above seems like it would work well.
Really anything that stays put and blocks out moisture and oxygen will work.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2024 Report
Charisma certainly has my attention. I’ve been carrying an Astute lately and enjoying the slim longer blade. Charisma looks insane. The frame lock tenacious is certainly interesting as well. Likely not something I would purchase (my existing Tenacious is working fine) but I can see it being desirabl...

I would appreciate that you refrain from promoting competitive brands on our forum. They probably have their own forum. Your kind understanding and cooperation is appreciated. sal This was stated pretty clearly by Sal previously in this thread. We should respect it. Some other time it would be fun ...
