Re: What makes a steel 'aggressive'?
I think it's possible that some steels have enough of a carbide load that it could be like microscopic saw teeth. I don't think it's possible that we would notice that effect in daily use. Our senses just aren't that acute. So for all practical purposes, vivi's right: the difference between aggressi...

Re: Sharpening Para 3s, I can't reach the very bottom of the edge! Any advice?
When I get a new Spydie, I take a diamond file and very carefully knock down the corners of that square nub until it's close enough to the angle of the blade's edge that I can take a few swipes right at the edge of the whetstone. Once I start seeing abrasions on both the nub and the blade's edge, I ...

Re: Magnacut Paramilitary 2
I have to assume that the black/yellow bumblebee look is an attempt to determine just how far they will have to go to keep the PM2 in Magna-Cut from selling out in ten minutes or fewer.

Re: Bodacious Discussion
Actually what I like on paper in the Bodacious exactly is that it does NOT have such a fat blade as the Shaman... 3.2 (Chief thickness) vs 3.7 mm, so the Shaman has almost 20 % thicker stock (in appeareantly virtually the same blade (also in length) other than choil vs no choil). What I also like t...

Should've named it the Orca. But it's bad AF. Reminds me a little of the old Lum model, too.

Re: Question about Tri-Angle Sharpmaker and Wusthof knives
Honestly, Wusthof's steel isn't hard enough to stand up to edge angles that acute. I think the Big 3 (Wusthof, Henckels, Sabatier) all harden their knives to maybe 58 HRC. At those blade angles, you'll probably roll the edge a lot. You're better off using the Sharpmaker to slowly change the angle to...

Re: Pick One Favorite.
Native 5. If I had to narrow it, the KnifeCenter Exclusive Cruwear DLC & Smooth Black G10 . Limited to production I'd go with the new Magnacut Salt PE. Best knife for my hand, and only the PM2 CruCarta comes close. This was my favorite, until it fell out of an unzipped backpack pocket, never to...

Re: Ideal Blade Steels For Whittling?
Would the Mule Team SPY27 make a good steel for whittling? I was thinking I could hand grind a finger choil where the nub is located to give me more control. It’d would be a fun project and that mule doesn’t cost so much and it can be replaced if I damage it to much. Good steel? It's probably fine....

Re: Magnacut rust from pocket carry
My first thought is that it looks like the bug is missing from the blade... I'm in the woods with Magnacut now and so far I can say my Spyderco is earning it's Salt name. I've been carrying it since January in the wet and snow. No maintenance beyond wiping the blade with a wet paper towel or a quic...

Re: If you could have any knife in magnacut, why would you opt for another steel?
IMO, Magnacut sounds like a great all-around stainless blade steel. I definitely want to try out a knife in it. That said, I won't be getting rid of any of my non-Magnacut knives, which right now is all of them. In another thread, someone posted that they're replacing all their Spydercos with Magna...

If I knew I was going to be cutting just a ****ton of rope and/or cardboard, I would get something optimized for wear resistance like that new CPM-15V they're pushing.
But I don't know that. So yeah. Magnacut.
