Re: Fixed blade finale.. with your help

I have handled a zoomer. Handle is quite large so will really fill a big hand. Too big for my hand size though. I think it would have been better to have made a more simple sheath to lower the price of the knife.

Re: New to knives, but found Spyderco

I have been sharpening for years ans have purchased a lot of sharpening systems. Sharpmaker is a good starting system, you may eventually move on to something like edge pro. But your sharpmaker will still get some use. Don't be tempted by electric systems until you get good at it by hand. Also use a...

Re: Spyderco knives that will increase in value?

This could be my attitude/patience but it seems that sprints do not increase in value like they used to. I used to buy one or two of every sprint for my collection. A couple years ago I had a new priority and sold off most of the collection. I made a lot of profit, although it was sad to see them go...

Re: Your favorite spyderco that you believe is perfect

I have never found the perfect folding knife in any brand. If I could take my favorite things from about 4 different knives then I would. What I have found is that the more knives I get the more I get disappointed that the perfect knife for me has not been made. I do have some fixed blades that I am...

Re: which Mule steel for what

You really need a steel that can be easily maintained for bushcraft purposes, that's why people often go with simple carbon steels because of the ease of sharpening and edge retention. Sharpening 4V in the wild would be a chore, I would think. Did Spyderco offer O1 blanks at some point? Why does th...

which Mule steel for what

I have been a Mule collector for a while and have finished a couple of them. I sold both of those and want to do 2 new users. I want one to be the best for edge retention for normal cutting use, I assume this is S110V. The other I want for toughness for things like bushcraft. I know there have been ...

passing of a member

Not to be downer, but I just heard of the passing of "gijoe945". Joe was a long time collector and routinely went to Blade and many other shows. He was an early Spyderco fan and had a good memory for those vintage pieces. He liked Sal real well. Although it would be hard to remember so man...

Re: Chaparral

Chaparral is one that I carry a lot. I hated it at first because I was expecting a larger knife, but once I got my mind around it, it became a favorite to carry. I can pull it out an use it in places that might be frowned upon if it were a para or etc.

Next Mule ?

I don't think there has been any Mule info lately. As always I am eagerly awaiting the next one and it has been a long wait. I know the last one is still in stock. But It seems MT09 was a slow sell and the next one overlapped in inventory. Starting at MT05 I bought two (one to collect one to use) of...

Re: Why do you think we don't see more spydercos in m4

I have wondered such things also. I would love to see it on a sprint mili or Manix XL with DLC coating. BM uses it in Contego and that is a decent knife, but made for a different size hand then mine. I was really excited when a fixed Contego was coming, but they used S30V on it. So just can't get a ...

Re: Actual Spyderco Employees

I had a job in the sales part of a small manufacturing company. I can tell you that most employees are not enthusiasts of the products they make. Hypothetical person "X" a wife and mother of 2, 40lbs overweight, no college education, but a nice lady and reliable worker. She applied for 10 ...

Re: Soap and water cleaning

This is not addressing anything anyone said, just telling how I clean.. I have a spray bottle of soap or windex, whichever I grab first. I spray into the pivot and work the knife. then I spray all over the outside and use a toothbrush on the surface and all inside parts the brush will reach. Then I ...

Re: Pricing...huh?

I have worked in manufacturing it the business end, not the mfg. Every cost is calculated and every cost is marked up. There is an exact formula that is applied equally to all products made. So if there is a little extra machine work on one thing it really shows up in the price. You might wonder why...

Re: Has anyone ever Stretched an Endura?

The Nish R was/is an under appreciated knife. I had one because I used to buy every single sprint no matter what. I thought it was a great knife for those who like the traditional Spyderco design style. But there was no excitement around that sprint. At least half the sprints go up in price pretty s...

Re: Angle of FFG for sharpening

Wow the angle finder app for Iphone is probably what I want. Although I have downloaded about 2 apps ever, I'm sure I can manage another... I had been doing the method mentioned about using the flat spot right in front of the handle, but that takes a bit to set up time, and some knives don't have en...

Angle of FFG for sharpening

When sharpening on an Edge Pro if I want exactly 30 degrees I can't just do that on a full flat grind due to the FFG not representing the centerline. Does anyone care about this? if so how do you measure the ffg angle and do your set-up?

I have M390 in a custom knife and it's edge retention tops anything I have ever used, so it is my favorite right now. Many people do not like super steels because they are hard to sharpen. With a lower skill level or low patience a person will make a mess of the edge with M390, S90V and etc. but be ...

I have not observed any obvious change. Knives vary from one to the next within a run and I have not felt I was seeing any differences other then that. But if this thread makes a difference in attention to detail I'm glad you brought it up.
