Another +1 on the paracord A lot of it can be bought for cheap. It is very strong. It's also great for lanyards, cord wrap handles, etc. I usually just wear out the laces (if the boots last long enough) then go to paracord. As for the tying, I usually just use the quick lace hooks on my boots, so a ...

They took them out a few years ago here in Ontario. A 25' or 16' tape measure fits in there no problem. I think the reason they were taken out is people were getting back into their car and the electrical potential difference would increase causing static electricity. When they got back out of thei...

A safety-less single action side opening auto typically only has one more moving part than a typical lockback knife.

Conceptually the BBL is very similar to the Axis. I believe that the BBL is the better executed of the two. Some examples: a coil spring versus the "omega" springs, full length liners versus partial, and a one piece titanium backspacer/square stop-pin versus no backspacer and round stop-pin.

A bit off topic, but I take it that knife center is a reliable retailer of Spyderco products?

The first one does open in a sort of goofy way. One possible advantage would be that both edges could be sharpened.

Well I suppose the first one would have a decent lockup. I think cold steel makes something similar now, there might be more information there. The third one if I had to guess what the pommel is made out of I'd say pot metal. The kind of stuff they make die cast cars out of. Mostly because it's cheap.

Sorry it's been a while. I got kinda wound up in something else and forgot to check in here. If you'd like to keep the stock nitrolon bezel then something like a Malkoff M61LL is probably a good bet. However the new KX4 that Buckles mentioned is probably a better deal all around. Because the KX4 hea...

Output and distance are two different areas. Distance has to do mostly with the size of the optic/reflector in comparison to the surface area of the light source. I don't think you'd notice a huge difference between distance in a e2dl and a 6p. The e2dl might actually outhrow a 6p. They have a measu...

It's complicated. There are a lot of factors involved. It really depends on what you're comparing it to. There should be quite a few SF LED lights that are brighter than say a 6p (The E2DL is an excellent example). The bottom line is that LED makes more light in the visible spectrum and less heat th...

Heat will be a serious problem in a G2 though. You'd want something with a low amperage draw (approx 350ma). At 1200ma the deerelight dropins will run way too hot.

That's not a totally inconsequential accomplishment. Crime statistics show that tin cans are probably up to no good. Think about it, you've seen them late at night, out in the street, just rolling around.

Has anyone used the 4Seven's Preon 2? I'm interested in a light for my EDC and am considering this model. I'm open to other recommendations as well. :) I've got one. It's pretty neat, but to be honest I rarely carry it. Makes an excellent pen light though, tons brighter than say a streamlight stylu...

I have quite a few, some of my favorites are: The Peak Matterhorn (similar to the fenix e01) that hangs out on my keys, The Nitecore EX-10 that I typically clip to my coin pocket, A Surefire KL4 with a emitter swap that clips to the top of the pocket, An Electrolumens DeCree XP-G loose in the pocket...

WOW!! So many cool knives:

Para 2
Szabo Folder
Superleaf
Sage 3
Caly 3.5

They all scream quality and construction, I wish I could touch them. If I could have only one, I'd like the Para 2. Just wow! Caly ergos with nested liners, g10, a comp lock, ffg and four way clip? Gimme, Gimme!
