So, this was really discontinued because of the cost of billets of that size?

I have a feeling this bodes ill for my dream of a huge (let's say 10 inch) H1 chopper. Or machete. Not picky here.

Without commenting on any specific seller, and having done lots of buying of all sorts of items on ebay, I think it's a good way to go. Sure you have to be careful - pay attention to seller ratings, I try to stick with the ones who are at 99.9% favorable. Pay attention to pictures and wording ...

I'm in, this seems great, didn't even know about this model but I've been thinking they need an H1 fillet knife. This looks flat ground, though, can they do it hollow ground like they prefer?

I don't suppose this is anywhere near being offered, is it Mike?
Should one send you a note though your website, or just hang tough for a while?
(Also posting to move this to the top, I've seen some people asking sheath questions).

I think I weighed in as one of the doubters here, and I love H1! I have six H1 models, and it's not enough. I'd love to be proven wrong, that would just strengthen my crush on H1. :)

I don't doubt H1's work hardening, or work hardening in general; I just wonder how long - and how much work - it ...

H1 is great stuff; I certainly can't consider it a novelty when so many of us live in wet, humid or salty areas. Repeating what others have said, edge retention and hardness is higher on serrated, and may approach a VG10, while PEs are the hardness of a 'regular' steel. I think most of the work ...

I think it was on another knife forum, one that is not manufacturer specific, but that has a Spyderco section. I'm talking around it because I don't want to break some rule and get sanctioned. Anyway, it was Sal or Kristy who said so (I may even have started the thread); sorry, I'm not a paying ...

Joshua J. Something to point out: H1 is not, technically, a 'steel'; it is an iron based ceramic. I don't know how much the first two links above apply. Well, or the third, but I'm thinking the wikipedia article definitely applies.
I promise, by the way, H1 is a ceramic. Sal or Kristy or someone ...

What I've wondered about, more than the amount/frequency/type of sharpening done to a plain-edge H1 blade is: What if the blade was convexed, either as a modification or from the factory. I seem to recall asking this once, and Sal weighed in that the production costs would be high because you pretty ...

I think there's a place for the coatings, especially with some types of steels (higher carbon). I happen to live in a pretty damp, rainy place, and I spend some time in temperate coastal rain forest, and such an environment will tear up even a 'stainless' steel pretty fast (but not H1 and not coated ...

Others will be more knowledgeable about this, but here goes:

First, it depends on the type of coating. A painted-on coating will not be as durable as DLC.

"DLC", which I believe is an acronym for Diamond Like Carbon, is very durable. I'm not sure of the rockwell hardness, but it's pretty high. I'd ...

I have way more H1 knives than I have hands, the one I reach for most often is my PE EDC Salt 1. Next most often is my SE Aqua Salt, it is a strong blade and a very efficient cutting tool. I'd probably EDC the Aqua Salt if it was appropriate for where I spend my days.

Very cool. Can you describe the mod some? It looks as though the re-grind is significantly shorter, but that could be perspective. Convex edge?
Thanks for the look, again, very cool.

I think this would be very cool, I have the same issue with multi-tools, rust sucks.
That said, good points all, Spoonrobot. I'd always though an H1 Spyderwrench would be pretty darn cool. I wonder what this would cost? Does anyone know of any rust-proof alternatives out there?

+1 on the Swicks.

I'd also like to see an H1 chopper. Big heavy blade, maybe in the 10 inch range, convex edge. And a machete, I guess, while I'm dreamin' waaaaay out there.

Actually, I'd really like to see any of the H1 knive convexed as opposed to hollow ground. Sal has explained that hollow ...
