These are my two most-often carried Spyders (with the blue inlay Native gaining fast). I find the Wegner to be more comfortable and useful.

I've had a large Wegner for over 2 years now, and it is probably my most carried knife. The lock definitely conveys confidence. Mine locks up dead center, and has never moved, despite all of my Spyder-drop openings and other flicking.

I carry my Wegner a lot more often than the Military. For my surroundings, the Military's size makes it a hard knife to carry happily. My tasks tend to benefit more from the Wegner's smaller size (blade slightly smaller, handle much smaller) and blade shape, and using the Military in mixed company c...

The liner lock in general (as opposed to the liner lock on the Military specifically) has many critics. There is no denying that there are stronger locks. Personally, I find the lock to be more than acceptible, and have never had one fail me on any of my knives. The Military's lock is particularly g...

Sal - Damasteel would be a wonderful choice. Glad to hear that FRN is less than popular <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> . A Spyder with bolsters?!? Man, that's why you're the knife designer guy. An excellent left turn to distinguish a special knife. I still like the i...

I'm pretty sure the Renaissance is full (Reminds me to call and confirm my reservation today!). Go search BFC, and you'll find a thread that notes where the NC Knife Knuts stay. Supposed to be nearby and less expensive.

FTK - Really, the handle barely shows any signs of wear, even though it's been carried "deep pocket" and in various compartments of my backpack, where the change and keys live. Truth be told, if you're actually going to carry the knife, you're going to deal with scuffs and dings on any met...

As I understand it, it's still an "if". If it proceeds, don't count on seeing it this year.

Meantime, go buy a Wegner! It's a great knife, and everything you do to deplete current stock encourages and hurries the development of the Wegner II!

In size to performance, the Mouse is about as good as you can possibly get. It is tough enough for most anything, and at it's size, there are very few places that will raise an eyebrow about confiscating or banning it.

The Much Maligned Herbst

Seeing the Peter Herbst popping up frequently on the "cull" list, I have to wonder how many folks have handled the newly redesigned Herbst. I received mine a month ago, and was floored at the improvement. It's a good steel, the handle is extremely comfortable, and the styling is very, well...

The ivory micarta with a damascus clip sounds way cool. I've got a Sawby folder with a damascus clip to match the blade and it's an awesome look.

I like the idea of a micarta Calypso jr. The small size would minimize cost and increase "carryability", it would be a very "trademark" design, and it would look very nice. A crisp flat grind can bring out a very nice effect, especially in tightly layered damascus. As for a large...

Same thing happened on my custom Bud Nealy Pesh Kabz. Should have seen the look on his face when I showed up at last year's Blade Show and asked if that's how it was meant to be!

(He immediately snatched it out of my hands, and sent it back to me razor sharp practically overnight..)

I like the Herbst far better than the Vesuvius. The Herbst is much smoother, and feels far more substantial in the hand. For a small knife, it feels and acts very capable, much bigger than it's actual footprint. It surprised me very pleasantly. I carry it often. As for the Vesuvius, it is plastic, i...
