Love my Dominos, have one in blue and one in black! This is the knife that brought me back to Spyderco! The Southard is nice, but not lefty carry friendly...maybe if they make a lefty version ;) I had no idea the Southard wasn't lefty carry friendly. Geez, this is a total deal breaker for me as I'm...

Love my Southard, got a modded Domino (pic before blade stonewash) on the way so we'll see what wins out. Both will normally be orange though... http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q164/svhas/B1/20140117_134552.jpg I've found the Southard to look significantly better with custom scales like yours fo...

I prefer the ergonomics of the Domino personally. If you've held a Manix 2, you'll have a good idea about the ergonomics of the Domino, as they're VERY close in size and shape when opened. I happen to own two Manix 2 and really like the ergos, so what you wrote above is a rather compelling argument.

Thanks for the many compelling comments guys. I also considered the Southard, but it seems that the Domino flips better or faster. Also, I'm not super keen on the blade and handle shape of the Southard - maybe that'd change if I held one though. The handle shape of the Domino seems more intuitive to...

Strong-Dog wrote:With what you can get a Southard at currently, I'd say grab that instead. Better steel, just IMO a better overall knife. Besides the grind, I hate saber grinds.
Isn't the Southard a hollow grind ?

Domino - to those who've had one, what do I need to know before I pull the trigger ?

Hi there, I'm about to pull the trigger on a Domino. Given the price point of this last, I want to make sure I know all I can possibly know before I pull the trigger. So, I'm asking those of your who've had it for a while. What do you not like about it ? Has there been any issues with it (any kind r...

I own and edc'd both the Tasman SE and Lil Matriarch for about 1 year each. I found the Lil Matriarch to be a better cutter due to the belly of the blade. I also feel the Delica 4 handle is superior to the Tasman (doesn't that handle compare to an older delica?). I like having both, as I do think h...

That thing looks HOT...I've almost decided that I need one. No matter what they tell you, this is NOT a free site!!! Hah Been there done that :p...

Hey chip, I have the se tasman and it's awesome. I got it because I'm on the ocean everyday and the h1 steel was important to me. It is a great knife, but having read your intended uses, I might actually recommend the matriarch. I just think you might find the matriarch blade shape more useful for ...

I used to have a Matriarch in SE and I'd agree it SE needs to be kept very sharp...which is rather easy on the sharpmaker.

If these 2 were the exact same blade steel it is likely the matchup would be very close. Because the Tasman is H1 and based on the testing done with H1 in the SE configuration, the Tasman in SE would outcut the Lil Matriarch in SE by a large margin. Again remember this is just based on edge retenti...

Lil' Matriarch or Tasman - which is the better cutter ?

I've been contemplating both, but I'm shooting for the best of these. Is the SE version of the Tasman likely to outperform the Lil' Matriarch cutting power ? I might be wrong, but I'd think the PE Tasman might outperform the Lil' Matriarch's cutting power, or at least it could end up being a tie. As...

Out of all these pics one of the poster shared (thanks btw), I find the Kiwi and the Tatanka to look the best - of course, it's a matter of preference. The Tatanka is a very large blade though, so I'm not sure I'll pull the trigger on one of those. I like the grind lines on it.

Thanks for all the comments - I must admit, it's a tough choice, the Southard or the Domino...I'll need to think it over some more before I pull the trigger.
