Re: Temperance 2... in 15v?

Clade HAP40 is a favorite of mine. I think it would make an excellent steel for another run of the Temperance 2.

Re: H1Spyderco Machete?

If you search there was an incident involving a Rock Salt and a coconut that did not end well. Maybe chopping a coconut is asking too much?

Re: Reveal 18 - Live!

I wonder why the Lil' Native sprint runs are 3.2 mm thick vs. the standard Lil' Natives that are 2.5 mm thick? The increased thickness is unfortunate because I like thinner blades, especially on small knives.

I think you got it backwards. The lil natives in production are g10 and are 3.2 mm ...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?

Success!

Below are my limited observations and experience taking a first stab at sharpening this HIC Mule...

1st: Don't try to sharpen by hand
2nd: Use a belt sander with a very fine grit and hard carbides and/or diamond stropping paste
3rd: Go slow and have patience

I started by using my 1x30 ...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?

Nobody has talked about using the slack (ie, unsupported) part of the belt, which tends to appleseed the edge a bit.

Yes, I used the slack part of the belt towards the end of my sharpening with good effect. Just like on a strop, I needed to lower the bevel angle a bit when using the slack part ...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?

The 1000 grit belt I used is a Silicon Carbide belt from Red Label Abrasives. It came as part of a sharpening belt set that they sell on Amazon. For $30 you get six belts (two of each 600, 800, and 1000). I’ve had them for years and honestly haven’t used them much because I tend to do my initial ...

Re: A copper spyderco

Copper is not poisonous (to ingest). Drinking water pipes in your home often are made out of copper, and various cookware items can be made out of copper. It's also sometimes used in healthcare high-touch applications because it has anti-bacterial products (I think it has to be 60% copper for anti ...

Re: Drunken Lynch Clip!

Can someone show a profile picture of how the clip sits against the titanium scales? For example, does it sit flush at the anchor/screw point?

Happen to have it in my pocket while I’m in line at the grocery store!

Thanks so much!

Re: Bring back the Kiwi

I would love to see a new Kiwi that is the exact same size and blade shape as the Kiwi 3 (which is slightly larger than the original Kiwi), but with a backlock, pocket clip, and higher quality blade and scale material. The Kiwi 3 has almost perfect ergonomics and I love the more pointy tip and ...

5th iteration of my Mule handle. Might not seem very different from the 4th but I know where the differences are ! We were talking about trying to fit different sizes of hand as well as possible, that's the purpose of this handle. Well, the extremely well thought out tang helps too :winking-tongue ...

captnvegtble: really like the shaping touches on the SPY27 above, plus your use of natural wood.
my next mule will look more like this SPY27, just not sure which steel yet.

Re: Show your Mule

Some of you folks run the handle material so close to the blade, it reminds me of a ruffle collar.

Not that there's anything wrong with a ruffle collar.

Haha! Love the imagery.

Yeah, I could pull the handle back a little bit from the blade... sometimes when I sharpen it runs the risk of ...

Re: Show your Mule

Here's a picture of a new Spy27 Mule that I'm just starting to shape (prior to attaching handle scales)... I've grinded down and smoothing out the nub, and I've also sloped and smoothed out the thumb-ramp area.

Re: Show your Mule

Ooo! That’s much more pleasant looking than the product page shows. I think that the straight spine doesn’t work as well on the mules as on others. However, with that nub removed and its final form, I think it works well!

Yes, I agree. When I first saw the picture online, I wasn't crazy about ...
