How thin is a dragonfly?
I am looking for a replacement for my Blade Tech Mouse knife. I enjoy carrying that one in my pocket, but its tip is kind of "Skinnerish" and not well suited to EDC tasks. I don't want to go too small, (Ladybug) so a dragonfly seems like it may be just right. My main concern, however, is t...

I did, but when I put the loctite (blue) back on, it seemed to really jam it all up, but maybe that was because I was not tightening them down equally? Also, when applying the loctite, I just have a regular little dropper. Is there some better way to apply that? Does it become that tight little seal...

Try keeping all screws loose and tightening them down evenly. Tried this, thanks. It seems to have improved with that. Before, when I was just about to close the blade into handle, it would not snap back into place on its own, now it does. I will monitor the pivot screw to see if it separates too q...

Trouble with reassembling UKPK FRN
I thought it would be interesting to take apart my UKPK FRN for cleaning. I thought it would be an easy way to start with so few pins. But, once I tried to put it back together, I found it was a lot harder than anticipated. My main problem is that the pivot screw seems just not right. Once together,...

I may be misunderstanding what you're referring to, but I've noticed that VG-10, ZDP-189, and S30V often develop a blotchy appearance and that FFG models seem more prone to it than hollow saber grinds. Not sure whether it's totally the steel, a combination of the steel and the finish, or just the w...

Does your VG-10 look smudgy?
I am the proud owner of a new Blue Delica FFG. I love the knife, but I just washed it off tonight after thinking that perhaps there was a little oil from the factory on the blade. It's pretty smeared still even after the washing, and a finger (a clean one) wiping it tends to smear a smudge right the...

The Blue Delica arrived today, and I have no regrets. It is a fine, fine knife, and in particular I am glad I chose the blue. Yes, as many have said, it is not a deep royal blue, but it is not the pastel blue that some pictures capture for some reason. I love it. It will take a bit of getting used t...

The blue is actually my least favorite of the colored Delicas. The purple and green have a sort of richness to them, IMO. But, the blue looks too pastel to me. Like it was dyed with Paas Easter egg dye, especially compared to the more royal blue G-10 of the Sage 3, Manix 2, etc. But, that's just my...

go blue! and then sell your children into slavery and buy THEM ALL!!! ...Too extreme? Not really. I suppose you could always swap back a healthy collection of Spyderco for a healthy set of three kids. I am leaning blue now which is the way I thought I should go. I think it will help with the differ...

For Delica FFG should I go with blue or grey?
On average, due to my hungry children, I only buy about one knife per year. My first was a Native 3 in black CE; my second was a UKPK FRN in grey S; and somewhere in there, the bug, which I have all the time, but sees far less use. Though I'd like to pick up a knife week and am so envious of those w...

Which is your favorite steel and why?
I just finished reading an old post here on steels and their benefits. I was wondering what you all would say is your favorite and why. One poster recently said he "loved the stuff," referring to VG-10. I wish I could say that, but don't know enough about steel to say such a thing. Maybe t...

The burr is a flake of metal on the edge that can accumulate while sharpening. They can be quite sharp, but very weak and can come in all sizes. It's an undesirable byproduct of sharpening. I believe burr size increases as sharpening pressure increases. The burr can be polished off with the stones,...

I just did the UKPK with strong results. I actually find the serrations much easier to sharpen than the plain part of the knife (I have combo edges in both the Native III and UKPK FRN.) Still, I feel like there was a time when I could gently hold a piece of paper and make contact and this would just...

S30V it is on my Native. I have just come from the basement, and I am feeling much more satisfied. Thank you again for your advice, and while I am sorry to clog the forum with a redundant question (my sharp maker woes) it is nice to be able to have the back and forth that a history search in the for...

I am doing just about all of the things mentioned here, except maybe I do let the stones get a bit too crudy. I sharpen my Native, my UKPK (FRN so GIN-1), my bug, and some Ontario Old Hickory kitchen knives, as well as a few others mostly using average steels such as AUS-8. The Native always, seems ...
