My favorite is the green G10 J.D. Smith sprint. I have lots of Spydies and I rotate my carry often, but for some reason the J.D. Smith just does it for me - its one of a select few knives that I keep a spare around.

Mine rattles a little bit in the kydex, but it's in no danger of coming out or anything. I'm thinking about drilling a small hole and positioning a rubber washered tensioning screw at the top to control the "tightness" around the handle. In theory the rubber washer would provide enough ten...

The J.D. Smith sprint has spent more time as my EDC than any other knife so far. I like it so much that I picked up another just to have a pre-need replacement for whenever I wear one out. I didn't expect to love this knife as much as I do when I bought the first one, but it is one of my all-time fa...

My best slicer hands down is the J.D. Smith. The blade is thin from edge to spine so there's less to drag and it glides through stuff. The Centofante 3 also is a pretty good slicer with the thin blade stock and the hollow grind. The Caly 3.5 is no slouch either, thin behind the edge and great ergos.

Tenacious. Price was low enough to overcome my trepidation about the "weird" look. That was about 40 Spyderco knives ago. :spyder:

I generally place my index finger in the spyderhole and the press the backlock with my thumb. That way I can use my finger to close the blade about half way (either to move the blade if its a tight one, or control it if its a loose one). After that I sort of lay it sideways in the hand and finish cl...

I have 3 examples of the para 2 in my collection, and of those 2 of them were freakishly smooth right out of the box while the 3rd one needed a little time to break in. After I spent several days knifesturbating with it, everything loosened up and it is now just as smooth as the other two. Give it a...

Smoothest out of the box Spydie I've ever gotten was the 20CP Para 2 sprint. The blade just seems to jump open with a small flick of the thumb and closes just as quickly. The Gayle Bradley, Manix 2, Sage 1, and Native 5 are all very smooth as well, but that Para 2 is just a bit more effortless in de...

I like the BD30P sprint for a meduim to heavy duty user. The lightweight model carries well and the BD1 steel is easy to maintain (and its cheaper) if your main tasks are fairly light duty. The moonglow model is neat but it has a very specific purpose in my kit so I don't EDC that one at all. Based ...

I'm a little late to the thread, but I've been carrying my J.D. Smith sprint and my Manix 2 XL for a few days now and I won't be inclined to change it for a few more.

Happy New Year!

More than once I've dropped a brand new knife on the concrete floor and several times have messed up the edge or tip. My camo Para2 now has a slightly less fine tip than it did originally from one of these mishaps. The most recent slip was with my fresh out of the box moonglow manix 2 - fumbled it a...

Used to do this with my Gayle Bradley a lot until I got careless closing it and sliced the end of my thumb open because I didn't get it out of the way quick enough. Now I stick to flicking the Para2, Sage 3, Manix 2, or something with an axis lock - much safer for boneheads like me.

I keep all the boxes just in case I ever want to sell one (or give one away) - that way I have the original box and paperwork. Might not add to the value, but at least it will reassure the potential recipient that it is a genuine article. I do this for all my knives. My box collection actually takes...

The CBB lock serves pretty much the same purpose as the axis - granted it's not quite as easy to release but it seems to be Spyderco's answer to that particular design. I've also been very pleased with the bolt-action lock on the Sage 3. I'd like to see Spyderco use this lock on future models as wel...

I voted 20-40, not so much for the numbers, but for the "nervous disorder" part. :) Opening a knife and cutting, whittling, or sharpening seems to help me think through things sometimes. I probably do it way more than 20-40 times a week, but "nervous disorder" seems to describe i...

It has absolutely no effect on function - I'd carry the knife and use it until I forgot about it. I'm pretty OCD about stuff when its new, and sometimes it takes me a long time to "settle in", but I will eventually come to grips with the minor imperfections and either forget about them or ...
