Re: Disabled Knife Self Defense

I have to agree with D on the neck knife. Much quicker to put into action while sitting. I don't wear them often but this is one of the advantages and it's totally ambi.

Re: Maxamet and cobalt

Just don't sharpen it over your food and you should be safe. I know everyone likes a little extra cheese at olive garden but don't grate the steel over your meals.

Re: Machete recommendations

I recommend the condor golok. Perfect for hard use. Easily clear brush and chop down trees. Bought this before they came with sheath and made my own. It's FFG with a distal taper and a convex edge. I stripped the coating off mine.

Re: Achieving blade drop without blade play

I tightened my Yo 2 to just wear it wouldn't drop freely and put loctite. Then I opened and closed it alot and it broke in. Now there's no play and it drops freely. I find that is the key to tuning it but it takes trial and error to get there.

Re: Spyderco Fixed Blade Idea: The Arch Angel Revisited.

Basically you want a spyderco chute knife. Chute knives are one of my favorite patterns for fixed blades. I just don't think spyderco is in the copying business. Luckily I have 2 custom chute knives to hold me over. Spyderco could do it as a homage to Bob Loveless but he never collaborated with spyd...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

These 3 today http://i.imgur.com/OdOmkXI.jpg The Ulize is a really neat model. Very ergonomic. I almost bought one, but I try to avoid recurves because I don't enjoy sharpening them as much. I wasn't going to buy this knife either. I won it from the calendar contest a few years ago. It just fits so...

Re: Pocket wear, Native 5 Lightweight

It's not terrible but it does cause wear.

I use it pretty often too the inside shows more wear than the outside but it's still not that bad. Couldn't get a picture of it but the jimping on the blade causes a little wear too.

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

I think I'm ready for this knife to be released. Been waiting for years. Maybe not as long as people who saw it first leaked. But still a few years.

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

Seeing that old picture makes me wish they had kept the hollow ground blade. I'm sure FFG will slice better but I like that old school native look. Maybe a sprint will happen one day.

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

I have to say that the Native Chief was my favorite of the new knives that Spyderco showed at the meet. Call it nostalgia, as I remember seeing that concept design on the forums back in 1999 or so. This was back in the day, when you had to put a knife on a flatbed scanner, cover it with a cloth and...

Re: How do you store your knives?

I finally bought one of those roller drawer tool boxes. I put down that non skid stuff they sell in the kitchen section and some foam to go between each knife. I figured the cost was nothing compared to what I spent on the knives. Before that I had them piled up in a locker. It costs me about the sa...

Re: This must change: VG10 and H1 to be used outside of Japan. What can Spyderco do?

Autos have to be made in America. Spyderco got in hot water with the spyderfly and szabofly. So they had to make the autonomy in the US. Maybe Sal can chime in the with how they actually do it. I know William Henry knives uses ZDP-189 so they must have some kind of agreement with the mill. So some o...

Re: This must change: VG10 and H1 to be used outside of Japan. What can Spyderco do?

CPM S30V replaced VG10 and LC200N replaced H1. It's time to move on and not wish for irrelevant steels. You monster! VG10- irrelevant!?- How dare you!.....The vilest heresy I've heard in a month! Such utterances will result in a visit from your local Commissar for 're-education' by being sent to cl...

Re: This must change: VG10 and H1 to be used outside of Japan. What can Spyderco do?

Spyderco uses H1 in Golden.

Not too worried about VG-10 coming out of anywhere but Japan. It's a good steel and all but I don't go out seeking it. I've got enough for a lifetime. I think spyderco is doing alright with how they use their steels.
