This is a not so raging debate at work. What is the open notch on the side of a Rescue model knife for. I say it is a vent to let the blade dry maybe? Enlighten us please. . .

I have in my collection two Stainless handle Spyderco's with a embellishment done by Gary Blanchard. I have Pro-Venator and Endura models. Does anyone know the production numbers of these knives and if there are any other variations available?
