I thought they had this problem on another model, it was the hard blade steel grinding away the obviously soft(er) lockbar material. I believe they replaced the lockbar in those models with hardened blade steel to fix the problem. I think yours may have already had a pit or defect in the tang, which...

I always use a turkey basting pan, almost the same as a cereal box, but more durable. I got that idea from taking apart motorcycle carbs and losing parts. Doing in there gives you space and it will hold any excess fuel or stuff you don't want on the floor.
