Re: Lifespan of Backlocks?

My old Endura trainer's backlock was defeated by peanut butter. I wrote up a review years ago as my Spyderco PBJ. After a couple years of stirring peanut butter the lock failed constantly and I had to retire it. ??? Did the lock actually fail or get worn out? If so how does peanut butter have anyth...

Re: Seconds & used sale - a perspective

Sal, I love you and your company. I've really enjoyed meeting you, Eric and Ed on several occasions. Resale prices on ebay show that most of the seconds are sold at below market prices. However, as a CPA I must point out that your second paragraph is wrong. Spoilage is part of the cost of every reta...

Re: How Do Your Factory Seconds Look?

Talking to the folks at the local powder coat shop I broached the subject and they offered to do a handful of parts, with different color for each part, for $40. the Ti Military is the only one with textured coating which I loved for grip but which is starting to peel in the hardest wear area. The o...

Re: How Do Your Factory Seconds Look?

Last shipment just received. In the center from bottom to top is the VG-10 Chef's Knife, Manix XL, Waterway, Ronin, Reverse, Nightstick and Hatchethawk. The Ronin and Hatchet are labeled as having a scratch. Can't find anything wrong with any of them, appreciate the smaller notches. On the outside c...

Re: 2020 Seconds Sale - SOLD OUT!

Although having to refresh the screen was a pain it was far easier than flying to Denver and paying for a rental car and hotel, not to mention without monetary cost. I was tenacious and had the time, being retired, so I got the 7 knives I wanted. Thanks for putting this on. Overall I enjoyed the exp...

Re: Larger knives?

I used mostly 3.5" knives, like the Manix... but 3.5" blades with a choil have edges no longer than My 3" Lil' Temp and Hanan. So now that my Hanan owns my pocket, when I want a larger knife I go up to a 4" blade. The Military is particularly versatile because it is so easy to ch...

Re: Bought 3 factory 2nd knives after an hour of refreshing

I've posted photos of some of my 2nds but haven't identified them as such. Usually there is no clue that the pictured Spydie is a 2nd. I'll gather up my current 2nds and include them in a photo of the news ones.

Re: Bought 3 factory 2nd knives after an hour of refreshing

I think that is a decent point; I took out the address. On various forums I regularly run into members who won't reveal their city or even their state. I think that is rather silly. When regularly discussing valuables that you possess however, withholding the address is probably prudent. I'll check ...

Much faster this time. Only about twenty refreshes as I picked up a Hatchethawk and a Waterway fixed blade.

Dribbling a few new ones twice since this morning. Being bought very quickly.

Re: Let's talk pocket wear...

I adopted Deacon's back pocket recommendation years ago. Some knives stay upright very well beside a folded bandana and some don't. The Ti Military was excellent, as was the original Southard collaboration because they are a bit thicker. The Hunan has done well in the back pocket when it is not clip...

Re: Crunch-Time Hardware? Spyders For Trying Times?

I've gone the other direction and minimized what I carry. Car key, driver's license, one credit card and my Hanan. Fewer items makes it easier to keep everything sterile. My wife has all the common ailments which make Covid-19 particularly life threatening so I'm being very careful.

Re: How Spyderco changed your approach to knives

I always carried a slipjoint and had one knife with a locking blade. After I retired I decided to pursue this interest. I started in 2006 by buying a large lot of used pocket knives on ebay. There were several Kershaws, I got into them a bit, and one very odd looking knife, a Delica. Once I used it ...
