Re: My thoughts on the Shaman

What scales are you rocking there? That looks like a nice improvement. Those are Aramis scales from Russia. I purchased them in 2019 before the madness in central Europe and the ensuing sanctions. Unfortunately these are no longer available in the US. I wish someone here would pick up on his design...

Re: My thoughts on the Shaman

Like some of you, I also found the ergos of the handle a little awkward. That medial hump felt like it was pushing my middle and ring finger away from the knife and only felt good when I choked up on the handle. Although I loved the glorious smooth slabs of CF on the Sprint I finally replaced them. ...

I am the original owner. Snapped the tippy tip off decades ago while harvesting mussels. Had it reground and now the tip is much stronger.

This with a new pair of pants (courtesy of @WValtakis on BF) and a reshaped flipper tab by yours truly. Ahh much better now.

Re: Show your mods!

Look mom, new pants! I've always loved this blade shape, one of Spyderco's finest IMO, but never bonded with the orange peel finish on the scales. So I reached out to @WValtakis on BF and asked him to knock down the orange peel and put on a bead blast/stonewash finish. This is the result...fabulous ...

Re: Interest in an Ikuchi sprint or exclusive?

Count me in! Solid CF scales, smooth and contoured. Please eliminate that useless hole. Premium steel like 20CV, M390, S90V, et al.. Like this...(an all ti handle version would be an interesting too). But if you get rid of the handle hole, how will you externally lock your blade ;) I lube the pivot...

Where did you get those contoured cf scales from?! That is the way the Ikuchi should have come factory!

Re: Behind the curve with an Ikuchi

About two or three weeks ago a few retailers received a fresh batch of Ikuchi's. I decided to take the chance and placed an order. Very happy with this iteration as it's much better than the first that I bought. Excellent detent, flips wonderfully, drops shut, centered blade, and blade tip well rece...

The are some bumps on my UF stone flats that will chip an edge if I try sharpening on them. Luckily, there's at least 1 side to each UF rod that is perfectly smooth so I just marked the smooth sides and only sharpen on those.
Yes, that's been my solution too.

I have a couple sets of each and mine are all smooth. Have you considered contacting Spyderco?
Unfortunately it's been several years since I purchased mine, so I doubt they'll do anything.

Re: Imperfect tri-stones on Sharpmaker

Sounds not normal to me: Just checked my white, brown and CBN rods: All perfectly smooth (other than being abrasive of course.. ;) ) on the flats and the corners, no "pimples" or jagged spots. The "pimples" on yours are really that bad that you actually can´t use the flats where...

Imperfect tri-stones on Sharpmaker

I probably should have asked a long time ago. The tri-stones on mine, particularly the Fine (white) feel imperfect. 1. The sides on mine have "pimples". I mean if i run my finger down one side I can feel a pimple or two; and it's like this on two sides per stick, giving me only one side on...

Re: What knives in your collection keep wow-ing you?

1. Swayback - alright it's new and still in honeymoon phase. I keep admiring the highly polished fine grained stonewash; razor sharp edge; smooth titanium scales which remind me of the feel of beach glass. 2. PM2 - in M390, M4 or S110V all with Aramis CF scales. They're in my rotation which include...

Interest for an all Titanium Ikuchi?

IIRC the designer Paul Alexander once mentioned a titanium Ikuchi was considered. I for one would love to see that happen along with an appropriate stainless steel upgrade. Any others?
