Re: Who designed the Chicago and Cat? The Civilian? The Police?

Not to hi-jack the thread, but I'm now looking forward to a Police 4. I've rather enjoyed the Police 3, much more than the original. It's nice to have a long blade that is small in all other dimensions (thickness, height closed, etc.)

Re: SHOT Show

I had a blast last year talking with Sal, Ed and Gayle at the main booth and with Mike and Gene at the "satellite" booth. Great folks who have a genuine passion for knives as well as the rest of the shooting/hunting industry.

Re: A good day for used knives

We have our first winner, but I'm not going to tell who so people can't just copy. The other two most recent answers are just one detail away each. Now for the clues. The Military is a sprint and I need you to list the steel. One Mule is a U.S. steel and the other is a Japanese steel. I'll run this ...

Re: A good day for used knives

In retrospect, that is a really crappy picture! I didn't do that on purpose, but it does make it a bit more challenging. There are 2 knives that are stumping people based on the answers above. I'll give hints on both tomorrow at the 24 hr mark. Thanks for sharing! I've been looking for two of those ...

A good day for used knives

I stop in to read the forums, but haven't participated much in some time. Life is busy with a young family and while I still use my knives many times on a daily basis, I don't take much time for the knife "hobby" lately. The Mule Team project keeps me involved (even if I am behind on getti...

Re: Sell me on the Temperence 2

It's a great all-around fixed blade, just like Sal intended. With a leather sheath, it's a beautiful looking knife that is not out of place on your belt when in certain public situations. With the factory Boltaron sheath (or an even slimmer custom made Kydex) it's quite possible and comfortable to c...

Re: Shot Show 2015

On Friday, I did have the chance to talk with Ed Schempp. He walked me through some of his designs, including two folding kitchen/camp cook knives. The one was huge and was intended as a portable chefs knife so they could transport it safely. He also had a really neat horticulture knife that combine...

Re: Shot Show 2015

I was able to swing by the Spyderco booth yesterday. The prototype cases (yes there were 2) were awesome and there's some really neat stuff either in the works or being considered. I'm not trying to be coy, but honestly I don't remember much about the cases since I got to talk with Phil Wilson, Brad...

Re: JD's Top 10: In SPYDEREDGE only

I'll play as my first 2 Spydercok knives were serrated. I rarely use them outside of certain uses and only carry a serrated Cricket on a day to day basis. But for specific uses, they're impossible to beat. 1. G-10 Harpy (stainless will do if one can't find a G-10) 2. FRN Rescue (any generation) 3. C...

Re: 2015 Catalog Released!

The Reverse looks great for an EDC blade. I haven't done much with my P'Kal, but this makes it an easy option when I want to explore that with a fixed blade. I'm glad to see the Urban return as well, even if it is in lightweight form. Perhaps we'll even see a Wharncliffe version sometime. Also glad ...

Re: Smallest tip down knife with a lanyard hole?

The Cricket works nicely in this role. I've been carrying keys like this for about 3 years. I like it better than the CF Balance that I tried for a while due to being so thing, but never tried a SS Balance to see how that was. The Cricket is about the best thing going for blister packs, so I never g...

Some neat details on the Native 5 LWT. The pin for the lock bar appears to be pushed in and not held with screws. I'd guess it is a larger diameter where it goes through the lockbar, using the scales for retention rather than just a pin held by friction in the scales. Also, the handle screws come fr...

Yeah HRC testing is + or - 1 HRC anyway and depends on the equipment, and the calibration and the person doing the actual testing so no it's not exactly dead on all the time. :) So the range could be 59 to 62 looking at it that way depending... But I would take what Sal says and his range. I starte...

Thanks, JLS, I will update the thread. Taking 59.4 near the plunge line, that's tolerably close to Sal's earlier post about 60-61. Given the results on the test block (almost one full point low), would you adjust the test results upwards? I think it would be safe to call it 60 RC given the variatio...

Just wanted to share hardness test results on my S110V Mule that I feel very lucky to have snagged on Monday. For some background, calibration on a Rockwell hardness test machine is verified on a test block that normally has a +/- 1HRC tolerance on it. These test blocks come in various ranges and it...

Over the course of the last couple of years, the cost of living has overtaken my income once again. Throwing down a couple of hundred dollars at a moment's notice is no longer an option for me. Honor systems don't work on people who have no honor. Serial numbering every piece and tracking who they ...

Thanks, Sal, for making these available to us.

I used to yearn for a re-release of the first. But the more I think about it, it'll be interesting to see Sal's thoughts on improving it and making it appeal to a wider audience. The first one took a while before people appreciated it. I know most don't like the original clip, but it was a very usef...

Both are very useful, but there are few full serrated flat ground blades in the lineup. The slight belly makes for a very good cutter, especially in SE. I love them in PE, but if I had to pick one it'd be the SE.

Great knife that doesn't get the exposure it should.

I'll have to call tomorrow and see if I can get on a waiting list. I've been checking multiple times a day since release and they're never available on the website. I hope I don't miss this one as its an awesome steel and I have at least one of the rest of them. If I miss out on getting one, I'd sti...
