Re: Magnacut Salt Native, then Manix, whats next?

I’d take a Stretch XL in Magnacut.
Hopefully they can make it as a “premium salt” version with G10 and keep the H2 FRN version as a budget model.

Re: Boning knife folder - stretch 2 xl? Which one?

I used a Siren and a Waterway pretty successfully in the past.
Thought a proper carving knife from Victorinox (for example) is a much better tool for the job.

Re: The Catcherman as a filet knife?

Well, feels ofd to post a reply, following one from Phil Wilson himself. I’ll just confirm what Phil said - you can do it with a shorter blade, alas with less efficiency and more time. A thinner longer blade will aid in making filleting an easier task, and a well designed - designated fillet knife w...

I’m an ambi, and use my knives with both hands, depending on the task. You can use your index finger (left hand) to close the knife easily. Either dropping the blade ricasso on the nail, or slowly rolling the blade closed with your thumb after depressing the lockbar with the index finger. My only g...

Re: The Catcherman as a filet knife?

Not to hijack the thread, but really wish Lance would weigh in on topics like this. I miss his perspective on processing fish and game, and on all things corrosion. Besides designing the Waterway and Siren, he commissioned some absolutely sick fillet knives by another forum member, possibly Xplorer...

Re: Current Salt models - hardware differences?

All I know is that the black coating on my Pacific Salt has been chipping off, slowly but surely.
Also, it appears that these are more prone to backing out, unless very heavily threadlocked.

That’s my experience, at least.

Re: Torque and lightweight models

I beat the **** out of my Pacific 2 LC200N, and have had zero issues with damaging the handle scales. Not only these are linerless, but also heavily skeletonized. Sure, the scales flex and some people may think that it feels flimsier than a comparable knife with metal liners or G10 scales, but in te...

Re: Sharpening Para 3s, I can't reach the very bottom of the edge! Any advice?

The ultimate “hack” is to use a DMt rod and make an actually sharpened choil.
I usually sharpen it at a steeper angle (50-60 degrees inclusive), and it works well as a wire stripper, or simply doesn’t snag as much as a choil that’s unsharpened.

Re: Steel for Fish

On any given week, I’ll spend about 4-5 days fishing. I’m in a kayak or a boat in the ocean at least 2-3 out of those days. I use the Spyderco Siren and Waterway nearly exclusively. If you have good filleting technique, you’ll do just fine with these two knives. I have many mainstream fillet knives,...

Re: Siren in Magnacut?

Sadly the Siren got discontinued... perhaps though they (resp. Lance Clinton) could do a Siren 2? Featuring your ideas, but also a boye dent (without one the blade can get a bit loose and rattly when holding the knife firmly in a sabre grip) and an SE version? I personally would prefer FRN though (...

Siren in Magnacut?

Given that the Salt series lineup is getting Magnacut, slowly but surely, is there a plan to release a Siren (perhaps in yellow or orange G10) with Magnacut steel?
I use this knife nearly daily on my Kayak, and it is one of the most important tools I own.

Re: I just bought an FRN Police 4 in K390…

The P4 grows small on you, after a while.
Give it a few weeks, and watch all your other knives shrink, all of the sudden. Lol.

The P4 in K390 is one of my favorite folders of all times. Bohler’s K390 is absolutely fantastic, all around!

Re: Grail Knife (for me) Obtained!

Still my favorite Spyderco to date. I use the heck out of mine and it shows it. After carrying one nearly daily for about a year and a half or so, it has only gotten smoother, and aside from the lockbar travel that every single one of my SpydieChef models exhibited (I had 4 samples at one time), it ...
