Re: The Return of the Persian

I think there is a lot of research done on doing a sprint of the Kris, maybe a Persian will follow. Some of the skilled artisans have retired that did the original work on these knives. COVID has not helped this process!

Re: Schempp Rock 'Chopper' idea

For handle material I like either horse stall mat or neoprene shoe sole material. I've been using oring material for pin stock with 18-20 pins that hold the rubber slabs on on the tang. This eliminates hard or hot spots in high impact cutting. I have used rubber inserts dovetailed into the tang that...

Re: Schempp Rock 'Chopper' idea

I used 5/16 thick steel and then grind a reverse distal taper the thickest steel is about 2" back from the tip, the end of the tang is about 1/8" thick. I grind the false edge through the handle. This geometry moves weight out toward the tip and toward the edge. It has rotational balance and a heavi...

Re: Schempp Rock 'Chopper' idea

My cutter knives were lighter than most with a weight of about 18 ounces with a reverse distal taper, putting as much weight as possible toward the tip. Most of them had a false edge moving weight toward the edge. With a negative blade angle the blade purchased the medium to be cut not slipping away...

Re: Why no steel strops?

Ribbed steels work like smooth steels. The give more pressure but they don't have an abrasive action.

Re: Why no steel strops?

Steeling is a burnishing action for straightening a rolled or deformed edge. These work much better on Carbon steel and Stainless steels like H1 or VG 10. On stainless steels the flexing the edge back and forth an often lead to micro edge chipping that dulls the knife. A steel properly used should b...

Re: Spyderco Khukri

This design had 5-6 prototypes where the design continually got smaller the flair at the butt of the handle was removed, the handle mid ridge was removed and the blade got shorter and the tip came up. This knife is very compact has a fairly large Spyderco hole and has good ergonomics for opening let...

The machine has a camera and a video screen for a close up photo of the edge, you can see the burr.

I sharpen edge down except the tip which is edge up right under a wheel. This prevents the tip from rounding off.

I pinned its head with a pencil captured the snake and put it into a jar. I showed my peace corp friend and we went to library to id...

Re: Knife Robot - paging Ed Schempp

I was contacted about consulting on this machine. I let the inventor know that I would help but would only tell the truth. I spent a half a day seeing the machine work. The original setting was too large of inclusive angle, the machine was reprogrammed to yield a less than 40 degree inclusive sharpe...
