Wow! What a nice thing to do. Seems to me the least you could do to show your appreciation is to name your daughter after Sal. How about Sally or maybe Spydie? :D

I decided to go with the lowest end spyder as one of my first good knives and its gonna be a practice run to make sure i can treat this one as good as a h1 needs to be treated.

You lost me on this comment, Badfish. The beauty of H1 is that it doesn't require any "good treatment." All you would ...

I'd like to see the Salt series offered with a marlinspike as well. Boye Knives has it on a folder very much like the Salt. Looks pretty simple to do. :spyder: could probably sell a ton of them. :D

I have both PE and SE. For cutting bait the serrated is better. Be sure to use a cutting board on top of whatever you would normally cut on because these will definitely damage surfaces. I also use the SE diving. If I'm gutting large grouper or filleting I use the PE (yes they do fillet pretty well ...

PE or SE?

From people who own or have used an Aqua Salt, for use in a marine environment (boating, fishing, etc.), which is preferable--plain edge or serrated edge?

A short prayer:

Sal, if you see this, please, please, please make some Spyderco models in Coyote/Black or, better yet, Coyote/Tiger stripe. They'd sell like hotcakes to our military members.

Amen

A "Must Have" Color Combination

How about something for our troops? I'm thinking desert tan or coyote brown handle and a desert camo tiger stripe blade (or just a black blade if you have to.) :D

You'll sell a bunch of them.

I had the same thought the first time I saw a pic of the brown FFG Enduras and Delicas. Brown FRN and black everything else would be a natural and would probably sell like proverbial hotcakes to military members.

So whadayasay Sal? PLEASE! :D

As Crocodile Dundee would say, "THIS is a hawkbill." :D

I've never seen a hawkbill with a 90 degree curve. Even with a Sharpmaker, I'll bet it's a bear to sharpen.

With that much sharpening seems like you would have maxed out the "work hardening" on PE H1. Have you noticed a significant increase in edge holding from when it was new?

What I can say 100% is that the Salt1 is taking a much keener edge upon sharpening now than it did when it was new .

By the way, the tip didn't break off. I rounded off the tip if the knife, I needed it blunt, at the time there was no Saver Salt and even if there was, I needed some PE at the tip ...

The other thing I did was to strip the clip and bolt of the black coating. I like the matte finish of the clip and the silver of the bolt as a contrast. I am not a fan of black hardware on a knife because it quickly gets scratched up anyway.

Have to agree with you there, grubbster. I think the ...

duff72,

Looks like it came out of my shop. Well done! Edges look smooth as well - I like!. Good to see that the effort I put in to the DVD set is paying off - objective was to raise the bar in what was available in kydex. Here's one of mine.

Mike:

Looks like the tip of the knife clip has a ...

Nice job. Looks very well done!

Is there enough tension to securely hold the knife in place inverted?

OT, but I really like the orange handled rescue and orange sheath. Really wish :spyder: would offer the Salt series in orange.

Just a couple additional thoughts here.

His duties might influence what the best knife would be for his purposes. Do you know what his career field is or what his duties will be?

dirtpig67 makes a good point (no pun intended ;) ) about rust resistance. You stated in your original post that he ...

Just to "de-confuse" me (because I'm old and have developed CRS :p ), did the Santoku come from the factory symmetrical or ...

Apparently that retailer hasn't heard there's a major recession going on.

Those kinds of price increases arent likely based on inflation since inflation's been very low.

It'll definitely mean I will be buying fewer, if any, there. :(

Proper Sharpening of Santoku (Sal or Taz)

I have a Spyderco Santoku in need of sharpening. Seems like I read somewhere that the edge grind on the Santoku is asymmetrical (more like a chisel grind) but when I look at the grind it appears symmetrical to me. It's never been sharpened so it has the factory grind on it.

Can you tell me the ...
