1) Compression
2) Axis
3) Monolock (like Benchmade Pinnacle)
4) Strong back lock (like Chinook)

IMHO Chinook is much better - it was created with selfdefence applications in mind. Chinook has much stronger lock and blade. One major drwaback is it's weight, but as for me it isn't so significant. If you nevertheless chose Police - take one with serrations cause plain edged Police is a pitty ...

I own Chinook. When I bought it I checked three Chinooks and only one hadn't any vertical or conventional bladeplay. Also it is a little bit tight to open and if you loosen a pivot you'll got bladeplay. Anyway great knife. I rate it to be best production folder.

For EDC - plain edge as mentioned above (serrations only if you are professional rope cutter :D )
Combo edge on average length folding knife isn't very useful IMHO. In combo edge serrated part of blade is to short to be useful. With serrated folder I'd go for full serrations. The only problem with ...
