Re: What’s your handiest Spyderco?

Delica. Wharnie for utility work. K390 for big jobs. LC200N for wet jobs. It can come with teeth. You’ve got sprints and exclusives for collectors. There are plenty of aftermarket parts for modders. Soon (I hope), we will get some high performance variants. What can’t it do?

I agree 100%. The ...

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?

My Native 5 LW in Maxamet arrived yesterday and I am over the moon. This is only my second knife from Taichung (the Subert was the first) and I must say, I am hugely impressed. The action is drop-shut out of the box with a nice early lock-up and the compression lock (my first one) is very intuitive ...

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?

I'm going to get the Sage 6 in S90V when I can. I keep ordering knives in 15V because I know they will be no more.

It makes a lot of sense. I know for a fact that I am not going to get 15V in China from my Spyderco dealers (you guys are buying it all :winking-tongue ; that's why I'm picking up ...

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?

I have just heard that I will be getting a Sage 5 Lightweight in Maxamet for my birthday and that it is already in the mail! I am super-excited for this one - not only will it be my first Spyderco of 2026, but it will also be my first experience with a Compression lock as well as with Maxamet ...

Re: If there is only place for one 15V knife...

Not really a wrong answer here but out of the options available I'm going with the Sargent Peanut Butter. Most of the time when I like a knife (in part) because of the steel, I want as much of it as I can get. I wouldn't say no to a 15V Ladybug though.

Re: Favorite EDC steel

Naperville The edge retention may not be in the top 5 of knife steels but Magnacut is passable. If you are attacking me and I have to thrust / cut more than 5 to 10 times, I GOOFED! Why am I in that situation?

I do not use knives for self-defense, so I have no idea in how many thrusts or stabs the ...

@BeggarSo Magnacut in theory perfect balance yet lacks edge retention

Finally, someone who agrees with me!

Re: Favorite EDC steel

For my use - K390 on a Seki knife without any shadow of doubt. My experience with Magnacut has been an underwhelming one - so I am not a fan. I really enjoy Micromelt PD#1 as well, but my experience with it has not been extensive enough to warrant a definitive opinion.

Re: Prices OMG Seriously?

I simply love how everyone extols the virtues of CRKs, but no one mentions the standard lock-rock that is inherent to any Sebenza with the ceramic ball detent. Spyderco gets critiqued for the lock-rock issue, but on CRKs it's OK - double standards if ever there was one. And when it comes to actual ...

Re: Spyderco in ZDP-189 steel

I believe Sal said solid ZDP isn't available anymore but that laminated still is available. The Caly 3.5 is still in production, so I guess that would be the last one Spyderco did/does.

I remember liking the steel and would potentially be interested in something with a 3" blade or smaller if one ...

Re: The ARI B’LILAH, a Jumbo Swick?

The Ari B' Lilah is a fixed blade. Downsides to the finger hole would be that it limits grip options, thus making it less intuitive for the operator to switch from forward to reverse grip. In addition, the operator's finger will in all likelihood be broken during a forceful disarming of the knife.

As is obvious from my username and avatar, there is lots of love here for the little guys; or should it be "little gals"?

Re: Real world Magnacut performance. A+

It is great that Magnacut works for you - my jury is still very much undecided. I bought the Native 5 Salt PE in Magnacut about a year ago because of my love for kayaking.

During weekends I work as a volunteer at an animal rescue center so my cutting tasks consist of opening and breaking down ...
