Re: Nearly-Forgotten TV Shows, Themes, and Ads

Best ad - I don’t even know what was being advertised, but the theme of the ad seemed to be about passed up opportunities.
A guy in a 60s Mustang pulls up to a garage in an alley and yells “Hey, Woz, Jobs”, two guys come out of the garage and say hi what’s up? The guy says “we just finished that ...

Re: Any aerobatic pilots out there?

Hi Spyderedge,
Somewhat of a bittersweet feeling while perusing that wiki article. I personally knew three of those who died, and know several others on that list, and have flown with two on that list, and many others that are not on it.
I’m not a pilot, but I have been taught to fly aerobatics ...

Re: What could this be?

Yes, Red Leader, it was a custom order and engraving. It will be on all my Spyderco knives from now on. You are welcome to use it if you can. I’m eagerly awaiting a Manix 2 XL in Magnacut, and a Dyad mini in SPY 27 which will have the same engraving.

Re: What could this be?

Yeah, after I looked at it, I figured it might be a bit misleading. Sorry.
The post about it being a possible grind line because it was parallel to the very hard to see grind lines made sense after I looked closely.
Very faint grind lines completely parallel to the scratch I’m looking at.
I think ...

Re: What could this be?

Define “prying”. If it does snap after following your instructions, will you pay to replace it?
I don’t pry with knives, neither do I cut things with a screwdriver.

Re: What could this be?

I bought it over the phone from the Spyderco Factory Outlet. Yes, it does say “Not made in china” It is a Native 5.
Perhaps I should change my username to “Not a troll”
In my opinion I think and hope it a grind line scratch.

Re: Compendium of tips for sharpening serrated knives

Hey, that glass trick seems like a pretty good idea. I used to make Opal jewelry and got fairly good at controlling a dremel. But I never had to worry about rounding off a sharp edge then. After I dull the edge a bit, I’m going to try that. The buffing also took out a few shallow scratches, and the ...

What could this be?

While checking my progress with a magnifier connected to my phone, I noticed this line from apex to spine. It seems to be only on one side. It’s a very straight line, but hardly visible to the naked eye. Any ideas on what it might be?

Re: Share your experience with 15V

Hey, Rusty, I just received my 15V Manix 2 today, along with two CBN rods. I understand now, the Manix is really a beast! I think I’ll save some money and cut down that fir and redwood myself! 😉

Re: Compendium of tips for sharpening serrated knives

Hey , I can’t thank everyone enough for helping me with this. I’ve gotten the apex on my Dyad serrations pretty darn sharp. The tips of the serrations are still pretty pointy and grabby, but I can live with that-For a while. It didn’t take long at all to buff the edges to a nice gloss with the ...

Re: Compendium of tips for sharpening serrated knives

Well, I kept going and got to this point after much sharpmaker work and trying the stropping with a buffing wheel and a dremel. I think I got a few hairs off my arm, but I am of Anglo-Saxon lineage, so I have more arm hair than a Sasquatch. I could just be shedding.
I think, thanks to the replies ...

Rusty, good answer! That makes sense. I’ve done things of a similar nature. I bet you had a bit of a grin on your mug while whittling that door.

Re: What to use to protect tool steel blades

Well, thanks for all the answers. I’m still interested if anyone has experience with this stuff from Oregon called Axe Wax. I’ve been using Carnauba wax, but it either doesn’t really harden, or takes its own sweet time to do so. Axe Wax is supposed to definitely harden.
