Re: Caly 3 EDC perfection? Could we see a compression?

Interesting timing for this thread for me. I have had a VG10 spyderedge Caly 3 for a long time, but have just recently been carrying it a lot, for harvesting vegetables and flowers, and just in general liking the knife a lot. The ergonomics are really wonderful, and the serrations make it a really p...

Re: Number of Spyderco Knives in your collection

41: 4 Byrds, 1 kitchen knife, 8 mules, 29 Spydies. I have also, sadly, lost three over the years, not counted in the total... I have managed to have a few knives that are no longer made or were sprint runs: Paramilitary D2, Caly3 Superblue, Small Persian (nice knife!), Leafstorm, and one Kopa (carbo...

Re: How about a Leafstorm sprint?

I would count myself in the category of those who love the leafstorm. I enjoy the feel and the operation of the knife, and have used it quite a bit for daily tasks. It is clearly not meant for heavy duty use, but serves as an edc really well. If there was a new edition though, I would really like to...

Re: Super Steels with serrations?

My combo edge Delica in ZDP-189 was my first Spydie. Knowing more now, I probably would have thought twice about that particular set up, but I do have to say that it has been a really good knife. The serrations have stayed incredibly sharp with almost no sharpening. In many situations, I can start a...

Re: Spyderco Seconds Purchases: Your Personal Criteria ?

I would be very interested in an east coast sale. I did buy one of the wood handled bushcraft knives and enjoyed filling the cracks and sanding it, so that was one good experience. I think that there are knives that I would use enough that they would be likely to get scratched up, so that buying a f...

Re: So what does everyone think of...

One option certainly is to buy a ZDP delica and get aftermarket G10 scales for it. Tom Wilkins has G10 and Titanium Delica scales on his web site. They are expensive, but if I were going to go for specialized Delica, I would certainly consider that option. John E http://wilkins-knives.com/images/219...

Mules in the kitchen/ New paring knife

I have a number of mules with Halpern handles, and have been regularly rotating them through my kitchen. Current knives are Elmax and S35vn. They are great as a somewhat more substantial paring knife or small utility knife. My wife, who is not as enthusiastic about knives as I am, really enjoys usin...

Re: Do I need a Para-military 2?

I have one of the D2 para military 1 knives- it is a wonderful knife- great ergonomics and the D2 stays sharp and is easy to sharpen if needed. The opening and closing are flawless. So, I hesitated some years before getting a P2 this past week (knifeworks- great price, free and fast shipping). I got...

Leafstorm
I really like mine, use it a lot, and have never been bothered by the lack of a choil, but that is something that a lot of people complained about.

I use mine all the time- it and my leafstorm regualrly trade places in my pocket. I did buy an extra when they were on sale at Sierra Trading Post, and also have one of the orange wharnecliff ones.
It is a very usable knife and about as non-threatening as you can get.

I have a super blue Caly 3, bought last March at SFO. I also have an orange S30V UKPK. I would not really want to trade the Caly for the same blade without a lock. So the issue for me is that I would, I think, rather see the unusual steels as Caly sprint runs than UKPK sprint runs. I am not opposed ...

I go back and forth between an urban and a leafstorm for the knife in my pocket most days (and other times have something a bit bigger). The overall "chunkiness"- thick blade and overall width, along with the RIL, the neat G10 are all very appealing. It is just fun to handle and play with....

I got a SB Caly 3 at SFO last March. It definitely develops patina as a non- stainless steel, but not too much, and certainly no rust, pitting or anything distrurbing. Of course, I don't cut onions with it either. The blade is amazingly sharp- much more so than the CPM S30V on my similar orange UKPK...

American made fine cooking knives

I know that there is often interest in buying Golden made Spyderco knives in order to support Made in USA knives. I live in Western Massachusetts where one of the oldest and few (if only) factories making cooking knives exists- Lamson & Goodnow is located in Shelburne Falls, MA. They make a very...
