Re: Microjimbo, sage 5, Bodacious potential tip protruding

I have the same "issue"" on my Lil Native Slipit as wwell as Lil Native back lock, the tip just seems to ride a bit high, and phenomenon I mostly encountered on traditional folders so far. I still enjoy the Lil Native, but it wasn't what I was expecting.

On the Native 5, the Chaparal, as well as ...

Re: Spyderco Culinary Utility Knife - a good gift for my mother?

I look forward to that. I've been trying to figure out what is the best thing for my mom as well. Fortunately for her, I do most of the cutting, but when she wants to get in on the action, I would like her to have something that will handle tomatoes lickity split. Serrations seem like a good idea ...

Hi Palestrina,

I think she will use it for more than you think.

She will receive it on Monday, I'm looking forward to her reaction.

I'll provide a review on her behalf here after some time of testing.

Re: Spyderco Culinary Utility Knife - a good gift for my mother?

No, not at all. It has its uses. For basic vegetable slicing (e.g., a “low cut” in culinary terms), it’s terrible. The serrations drag on the board and slow everything down. It’s very handy for certain things such as tomatoes and all the things you see serrated utility knives recommended for ...

Re: Spyderco Culinary Utility Knife - a good gift for my mother?

Hi Palestrina,

I would get her the blue handled K04SBL. She will love it. You will need to caution her as to how sharp it is, but it will stay sharp for her for many years.

Spyderco Culinary Utility Knife - a good gift for my mother?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here has some experience with the Spyderco Culinary Utility Knife in Spyderedge configuration.

The issue is - my mother is an excellent cook, but for some strange reason she refuses to sharpen knives herself. No amount of arguing will get her to do it - she just ...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

First day with my brand new Native 5 SPY27. First Native 5, first SPY27. Let's see how it holds up against the Delica.

Re: Ever have a lock fail in normal use?

A good friend of mine had a liner lock fail on him while cutting straps. It may have been his own fault, hard to tell since I wasn't there, but he ended up in the hospital to get a few stitches.

We checked his knife afterwards, it wasn't old or abused, a middle class knife, I still know the exact ...

Re: Serrated K390 sharpening?

👆
What Jay said.
Generally, I use the regular Sharpmaker rods because they're gentler on the serrations. Occasionally I'll use the diamond rods, but they're rather aggressive.

I don't use Sal's method. Rather than hold the blade vertically, on the ground side, I tip the blade to match the ...

Even though the Delica is my favourite platform, the Chaparral is of higher quality in comparison - I might say even better than my Lil' Natives.

They are exactly the same, no sharp edges.

SE left, PE right.

I can't stress enough how much I love the tightness on this backlock, it's slim, but built like a tank.

Keep - Delica K390 - the best overall package.

Try - Native 5 LW SPY27

Retire - Delica Wharncliffe - great overall design, but very specific used cases.

Re: My second SLIPIT™ Lil' Native

I've changed the title and added a rebuttal to my own useless rambling.

The knife works exactly as I expected it to be, everything is fine.

And the sound and feel when snapping the knife closed is by far the best I've ever heard on a slipjoint. It's so satisfying I might fall into the trap ...

Re: My first SLIPIT experience / Spyderco Urban

Here’s the HH Urban and its larger sibling the HH UKPK. They have quite a different feel in hand to the FRN models - sort of stiffer and maybe a little more premium feeling in G10 (to me FRN says ‘ready for adventure’ whereas G10 is more ‘ready for EDC’). I swapped the HH S30V blade for an S110V ...

Re: My first SLIPIT experience / Spyderco Urban

Update: A small drop of Loctite 243 seems to have solved the issue.

Perfect.

And I've just realised the Urban has been updated with M398, which makes it a really great deal.

Re: I don't understand why Spyderco pivots self loosen

I noticed this on my Brown FRN Delica recently. I noticed it dropped shut very easily when I depressed the lock compared to my newer Superblue Delica. There was also some *slight* side to side play. Tightened up the pivot & all is good. Could not even begin to tell you when the last time was that ...

Re: My second SLIPIT™ Lil' Native, surprised by blade shape

No need to feel stupid over something like this. Some people just get bothered by things differently. If it's something that you really can't move your mind past for whatever reason then simply return it and move on to another model.
Or, use the knife and see if it actually does or does not create ...
