Re: Hiking with Spyderco
I like this thread a lot - hiking + backpacking was the first context where I used a knife regularly as a child. I'm not much of a hiker these days (usually rather be on a bike), but here are a few from the last few years.

Basically a tie between Delica K390 SE and Lil Native CPM 15V Backlock.
If I just have to look at it probably the Native 5 Micarta/CruWear. Beautiful.

Re: What would be your dream knife?
I pretty much have my dream Spyderco knife already, it is a Lil’ Native Backlock with 15v blade steel. If I was to change something them maybe make the handle scales out of that purple G-10 from a few years ago or the dark blue G-10 being used on the new line of knives with SPY27 blade steel ...

Very underrated knife.
I think folks that love the delica overlook this model because they think it's too small, but they would be gravely mistaken.

Re: European Spyderco Owners: your opinions wanted
I'm located here in Austria, as of now our laws are quite relaxed, but changes are on the horizon and I expect locking folders to be outlawed in public spaces soon.
Therefore - as much as I love my Native 5s, my Chaps and especially my Delicas - I'm looking forward to additional non locking models ...

Re: Microjimbo, sage 5, Bodacious potential tip protruding
I have the same "issue"" on my Lil Native Slipit as wwell as Lil Native back lock, the tip just seems to ride a bit high, and phenomenon I mostly encountered on traditional folders so far. I still enjoy the Lil Native, but it wasn't what I was expecting.

Re: Spyderco Culinary Utility Knife - a good gift for my mother?
I look forward to that. I've been trying to figure out what is the best thing for my mom as well. Fortunately for her, I do most of the cutting, but when she wants to get in on the action, I would like her to have something that will handle tomatoes lickity split. Serrations seem like a good idea ...

Re: Spyderco Culinary Utility Knife - a good gift for my mother?
No, not at all. It has its uses. For basic vegetable slicing (e.g., a “low cut” in culinary terms), it’s terrible. The serrations drag on the board and slow everything down. It’s very handy for certain things such as tomatoes and all the things you see serrated utility knives recommended for ...

Re: Spyderco Culinary Utility Knife - a good gift for my mother?
Hi Palestrina,
I would get her the blue handled K04SBL. She will love it. You will need to caution her as to how sharp it is, but it will stay sharp for her for many years.

Spyderco Culinary Utility Knife - a good gift for my mother?
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone here has some experience with the Spyderco Culinary Utility Knife in Spyderedge configuration.
The issue is - my mother is an excellent cook, but for some strange reason she refuses to sharpen knives herself. No amount of arguing will get her to do it - she just ...

First day with my brand new Native 5 SPY27. First Native 5, first SPY27. Let's see how it holds up against the Delica.

Re: Ever have a lock fail in normal use?
A good friend of mine had a liner lock fail on him while cutting straps. It may have been his own fault, hard to tell since I wasn't there, but he ended up in the hospital to get a few stitches.
We checked his knife afterwards, it wasn't old or abused, a middle class knife, I still know the exact ...

Re: Serrated K390 sharpening?
👆
What Jay said.
Generally, I use the regular Sharpmaker rods because they're gentler on the serrations. Occasionally I'll use the diamond rods, but they're rather aggressive.
I don't use Sal's method. Rather than hold the blade vertically, on the ground side, I tip the blade to match the ...
