Re: Caribbean Adjustment?

Get a Stretch XL Salt or Pacific Salt in H1/H2 and you'll be doing great. LC200N will also work just fine. Pick plain edge or serrated based on your sharpening experience or preference. I did have a Siren for a time and the stiffness of the G10 scales was a plus, for me, but Spyderco's FRN handles ...

Re: Caribbean Adjustment?

Hey Doc, I didn’t fool with trying to fix it. I didn’t think it was appropriate to mess with it then return it, so I left it as it was before sending it back. It was probably just loose scale screws, but if it was something more I wouldn’t know how to fix it. If I moved the knife back and forth in m...

Re: Caribbean Adjustment?

Do y’all think a Tenacious or Resilience could survive surf fishing if I rinse it after the trip?

Re: Caribbean Adjustment?

Thanks Dan and Salty. The Siren looks interesting. This’ll be mainly my surf fishing and camping knife. I 100% plan to dunk it in salt water to wash it out as I’m cutting bait. I started off with a Stretch 2 XL, but wasn’t wild about the side-to-side flex. But after looking at all the options, I pro...

Re: Caribbean Adjustment?

Update (if you’re interested): I returned the Caribbean. I dropped the knife on my living room carpet and it came open. Not a knife I can see on a boat or in a camping environment. You’re on the bow of the boat and it falls and slides to the back while open? You’re rigging something overhead at a ca...

Re: Caribbean Adjustment?

Hey folks, got my new Caribbean in yesterday. Really like it. I noticed that the scales have a little play in them to an audible degree. I’m assuming the screws need tightening? What should I do to fix this? Get a torx set and tighten? Thanks for your help. Yes, tighten them. Weird that they're loo...

Just got the Caribbean in. Solid unit! Very sharp. Works well with my lightweight shorts. Can’t wait to get on the water with it. Thanks for all the recs.

Hi Sal! Will do. That’ll make it much easier. Will also try the marker, Stuart.

Lansky - What am I doing wrong?

I broke out an old Lansky system that an older gentleman gave me years ago. I never used it. I decided to give it a try and watched a bunch of videos of people doing it correctly, and apparently incorrectly based on comments. So I felt like I had a good idea of what to do. My test knife was an Old H...

Don't forget the upcoming Native Chief Salts. I would think they would be pretty sturdy similarly to the Native 5 LWs.
Will check those out!

Re: LC200N for mullet? Recommendation Needed

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I’ll give the Waterway a look. So I do an assortment of fishing. One of my favorite things is wade fishing with a cast net. I throw a 10 foot mullet net. I also surf fish from the beach and will wade in to throw a bait net. I don’t do a ton of in-water wade fishing ...

Re: LC200N for mullet? Recommendation Needed

Thanks Wartstein. I see plenty Spyderco Salts in my future. Glad I found them. Lived my whole life on salt water. I can see gifting these to friends and family. Excited for the Caribbean. Hoping it will work in a lightweight fabric pocket. We’ll see. If not, I’ll grab a lightweight model for those d...

Re: LC200N for mullet? Recommendation Needed

Thanks for the insight, Wartstein. I’m sure it’s a fine knife, but I wasn’t comfortable with the knife’s flex. I think the Caribbean will be a better knife for me. I may get a Native 5 in the future as I really enjoy the lightness of the FRN.

Re: LC200N for mullet? Recommendation Needed

Well, I got the Stretch XL in and I was pretty disappointed. The joint seemed a little flimsy. I understand that this is a longer folder, but I wasn’t comfortable with the side-to-side flimsiness. I could see the scales coming away from the blade on both sides at the joint with slight pressure. I wo...

Re: LC200N for mullet? Recommendation Needed

.... ... I went with the plain edge. I think it’ll be better for all around use. Plus, I do t really have the sharpening experience for a SE. But I read a bunch of great reviews on the SE in H1/H2. Definitely see one in my future for boating safety. PE is just fine and will serve you well! ... But ...

Re: LC200N for mullet? Recommendation Needed

On my last trip to Florida, where I do a lot of surf fishing, I brought my Spyderco Carribean Sheepsfoot SE in LC200N to use as my bait knife. I was cutting thru some tough fish between cleaning Sheepshead and cutting up jack crevalle for shark bait. Its tough work cutting thru the scales and backb...
