Re: New Steel Heat Treatment Created
Well of course. Any other measure is purely made up. The cost is the cost, not some arbitrary pie in the sky political assessment that is totally unrelated to “cost” at all. Cost is….cost. Measurable in exact terms. Today.
Not necessarily, I wouldn't say forests, oceans etc don't have value ...

Re: Where is the CATRA data for serrated edge steels?
Apologies if this is a stupid question, but doesn't the different edge angle invalidate this test?
It's my understanding that the 22d edge would far out cut the 26d edge regardless of it being serrated?

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
Purely anecdotal, I never noticed much difference swapping to ceramic on a Manix, It did make a difference on the dodo. Maybe the bigger ball is more prone to lockstick, or its more noticeable due to not having the traction benefits of the cage?

Re: Any chance at a CPM 3V sprint run?
What utility are you hoping to get from 3V in a folder? (assuming you're talking folders)
3V I believe doesn't have the hardness for thin edges that people like to push out of the high toughness steels e.g. M4, Rex45, 4V...

Re: Have you ever sold a Spyderco, regretted it and bought a replacement later on
My only regretful sale was my Kapara.
As fate would have it just when I was in a position to buy another, the S90V exclusive was announced so it worked out well in the end.

Re: Ever have a lock fail in normal use?
I briefly owned a Quiet Carry Waypoint and for me the way it was comfortable to hold also made me disengage the liner lock unintentionally. Not sure if that would be considered a lock failure or an ergonomic failure, but I had to sell the knife because it was unusable for me.

Re: Back lock is
I would say if you like a back lock then within the Spyderco family the CBBL is the better version: it maintains the closed bias and closed handle design (I'd call this a disadvantage but each to their own) but improves strength, smoothness, ease of operation/manipulation and eliminates lock ...

Yeah, clunky web site. When I finally go through to the checkout, it wouldn’t accept payment. :zany Oh well, saved me $255.
Still, I hope others enjoy the knife.

Re: Chaparral CQI
I have a plain edge chaparral sun and moon from years back, the lockbar edges are chamfered.
I think there is an issue with many reviewers that the only time they touch a tool is when they do their tabletop review and they need to invent problems to talk about (chaparral lockbar is too skinny and ...

Re: Spyderco vs Vosteed compression lock knives
Although I'm happy to see the compression lock getting around into more knives I'm unlikely to buy one that isn't Spyderco.
From your picture it seems that the vosteed is much like the smock where the stop pin is moved away from the locking surface on the blade making it less of a "compression lock ...

Re: Sal, once again, you had a brilliant ideea
I was a little curious how the convex edge was intended to play into the design too. Like Evil D said, obviously convexing adds strength, so to get better cutting out of it it would need to be thinner in some respect. If you combined the high hollow grind with a thin convex edge, that could make ...

Re: What do you see differently about Spyderco than other companies.
For me the most significant thing that sets Spyderco apart is the willingness to completely disregard what a knife "should" look like. 99% of the market is generic knife shaped objects that match what consumer thinks a knife looks like based on what they saw as a child.

Re: Some Steel better for folders than fixed blades?
Depends on intended use.
If a folder is not built for hard use, then what benefits are you really getting from a super tough steel? Less edge damage? You can work that out with edge angles.
I don't have the experience to back up what I'm saying, just an observation from sources such as ...

Re: Cru-carta Chaparral
A Cruwear Chaparral would be an instant buy for me.
But given the purpose of the Chaparral something like Richlite would make a more interesting scale material IMO
Cru-Lite has a nice ring to it.
