I'm 10000% in for a 6" mule.
Outdoors, the VG10/Micarta Temperance 2 feels best in both blade size (4.8") and fit/finish, and full tang heft. The SE Cruwear T2 is also pretty great outside. Both are almost a MuleXL in design.
A 6" Magnacut Serrated MuleXXL would be near perfection for an ...

Re: China
Chinese knives are often liner lock, the worst of all locks, so on top of the "china" stigma, they usually feature my least preferred lock.
$80 is still too much for a Chinese knife especially considering their bottom tier steel.
Others like them, but they have zero appeal due to their low tier ...

Re: MT46P Testing Thread
Hi Spyderwebs,
sal
Thank you sal, it's no problem in the grand scheme. It sharpened off easily and I'm loving magnamax overall (especially SE). If anything I'm sorry for being whiny.
I've been using the SE in the kitchen, yard, and a little camping. The SE seems just like a mini Temperance2 ...

Re: Magnamax performance discussion
I'd love some new 3.4 - 4" knife designs with 2.5mm stock similar to the Schempp Bowie or slightly smaller.
Thinner stock really helps with sliceyness and most models wouldn't suffer at all with .5mm thinner stock.
Or a thinner BTE grind with the existing stock thickness. Either would achieve ...

Re: suggestion: non-salt seki models in Magnacut
At least in Golden, it would be nice to see S30V go away and everything default to Magnacut.
It would make all of Golden's base models a lot more attractive imo.

In terms of fit and finish,
Taiwan > Golden > Maniago > Seki (I don't have any Chinese models so can't rank)

Re: MT46P Testing Thread
I've been using the SE since release but just pulled out the PE to play with it a bit.
I know this is an easy fix, but the PE I got has the worst factory edge with a large burr (catches on the nail easily), and catches on printer paper and wont slice cleanly even at a very steep angle. Really an ...

Re: Temperance 2... in 15v?
I might be in minority, but I've been extremely happy with how VG-10 performed on the Temp 2 platform. I think it's a case of the design having more merit than the actual type of steel being used here.
I'd buy a re-run made the exact same as the original.
VG10 might seem boring compared to ...

First models with MagnaMax? and other MM questions...
I've been enjoying the Mule thoroughly and it got me wondering, Any hints at which models will get the first rounds of Magmamax?
I assume they're still a ways down the pipeline, given that NSM needs to commission more melts of MM, right?
Any idea when another MM melt will be available to OEMs ...

Re: Steel Challenge #1
Fun idea Shawn!
I'm just a guessing layman, but lets see how close I come.
I'm guessing #2 is more stainless, because the Vanadium, Niobium, and Nitrogen allow more chrome to remain in solution, thus adding to its stainlessness.
Close?

Re: Talking Mule Team Re-runs
Now that serrated mules are a thing, any re-run in SE would have a strong pull I think.
Magnacut would definitely sell out a 2nd or 3rd run, especially with a mix of PE/SE.
How many new / exciting steels are left to try?
I'd also be interested in DLC coated tool steels like M4 or K390 or 10v in ...

Re: MT46P/MT46S - Mule Team™ MagnaMax™ Release Info!
Someone please correct me…but has their been a steel with a higher wear resistance than Magnamax that has been in a serrated format? Like serrated Maxamet or something?
Or is this the highest so far?
I could see chipping becoming an issue with low toughness steels, so wonder if the ~K390 level ...

Re: MT46P/MT46S - Mule Team™ MagnaMax™ Release Info!
Just got shipping confirmation this morning!
Also it appears that it has what I consider "low profile" serrations based on the one actual pic posted earlier in the thread! This is my favorite serration style and I'm stoked to try essentially K390 with low-pro serrations. I expect great things from ...

I'm also hoping the serrations are on the lower profile side too.
The Moki Cruwear serrations on the Temperance and Ayoob are my favorite overall edge.
Interestingly I talked to Eric last year and he said one of his action items was reviewing the various serration profiles and possibly unifying ...

Got 1 of each! I'm glad they limited sales to 1 of each type. Demand is there regardless - no need to enable the flippers.
The PE is going on immediate Kitchen duty. The SE will be the backpacking/outdoor/work knife for a while.

Preferred cutting board material and qualities?
We're due for a cutting board refresh and I'm wondering what people like in the low-mid price cutting board category?
We're trying to avoid plastic. Metal, glass, and ceramic are all bad for edges I assume. I hear Bamboo is surprisingly abrasive too?
Is end-grain wood the best (kindest) substrate ...

Re: Specifically, what does Spyderco do to fix stripped clip screw holes?
So no consensus? I'm not curious about how I could fix this - I know what I will do if I fix it myself (I would drill and tap the backspacer which is like 5mm thick, then buy 8mm long screws so the thread engagement would be 3-4x more. I'd even use a bottoming tap and hand-start it using the ...

Specifically, what does Spyderco do to fix stripped clip screw holes?
I have had issues with one clip screw on the Cruwear Ayoob since day one and it finally stripped completely.
If I send it in to be fixed, will they drill it out and tap the next-larger thread size? (I.e. from the current M2x.4 to M2.5x.35 or M2.6x.45 or M3x.5), or even worse, would they tap ...

Taichung models quickly joining my favorites
I picked up a Schempp Bowie a while ago and recently picked up the Kapara S90V sprint.
Wow, now I see why everyone says Taichung has the best fit and finish!
The actions are impeccable. The fit and finish is flawless. They have a very reassuring lockup and heft. I love the feel the stop pin has ...
