Re: Might've goofed up my Smock.....
Yep, remove the spring and ball and the knife still functions fine. There may be a couple of states that don't allow the blade to drop once you push the button in, so Spyderco is wisely covering all the bases. The Sage 6 has the same setup. Of course, hundreds of thousands of imports let the blade ...

Re: Might've goofed up my Smock.....
I have removed the spring and ball bearing on both my Smock's and it makes the action even slicker. On one of them I also replaced the bearings with ceramic bearings. It even seemed to me it was smoother with the ceramics, although that's probably just my imagination. Fret not, you didn't hurt a ...

1) Military 2 in BBB 15V. One of the best overall knives I have ever used.
2) Dragonfly K390 Wharncliffe. The cardboard champion. Little workhorse.
3) Kapara. What a beautiful knife.
4) Native Chief. Another beautiful design.

Re: What is your all time favorite steel?
I love 15V. I have never had a factory edge cut so well and last as long as Sal and Shawn's CPM 15V. No rolling or chipping, ever. I live in Nevada so corrosion isn't an issue here, although I keep them waxed with Renaissance Wax. When it's time to sharpen, I have no problems using a fixed angle ...

Re: Is Maxamet going away?
Good to know. Maxamet and REX121 are the only knives I have that can cut glass. Ahem. Not that I cut much glass.
Sal, you are a very kind and generous soul.

Is Maxamet going away?
Is Maxamet going away? I know REX121 will be gone soon, but with Crucible selling all it's powdered steel technology and IP, will Maxamet be gone soon?

Re: Spyderco makes some of the sharpest factory edges.
I have bought a lot of different brands and Spyderco Golden Co. and Taiwan are consistently razor sharp. 40 years ago I bought a fixed blade no-name, and everyone was amazed that it cut regular printer paper. Most production knives back then weren't very sharp it seems.

Spyderco makes some of the sharpest factory edges.
If any other company makes a production knife with a sharper edge than Spyderco, I would be surprised. I just tested a Smock and a Manix 15v and they were both amazingly sharp!

Re: Just the tip?
I did a stupid with the nameless brand with the strange springs. Being as it was a work knife I just ground it back. D2 steel. Never have I damaged a Spyderco, although I did drop a PM2 and caught it with my foot. It stuck a good 1/2 inch into the top of my foot, through the boot. What a great blade ...

Re: Bodacious Discussion
I just received my first Bodacious. What a great design! It has now replaced my beloved BearCarta in my pocket for a slice session. It has blown through a bunch of cardboard so far with ease. I sure would like to see one in 15v, but if we can't get any more, it would be great in Dr. Larrin's new ...

Re: 4V DLC Dodo comes out in a week
I just showed a friend of mine my new Dodo. He had never seen one before, and when he opened it up he stared at the short little blade for a full minute. Then he said "it must have been cold outside". I just about died laughing.
