Re: Spyderco Balance SPY27 Sprint Run

Few other knife brands are as collectable as Spyderco's. I am sure the little Balance will appreciate quite a bit in a few years, and the Balance certainly is a collectable Spyderco. I guess I bought the last one at National Knives. :bug-red

Is the Caly 3.5 going to get a big brother?

IMG_3615.jpg
I am super impressed with the Caly 3.5 I received a few months ago. Large blade in a smaller handle, and in one of my favorite (older) super steels ZDP189. Is the Caly going to get a big brother? Such a neat design! :bug-red-white :smlling-eyes

I have another Military 2 in 15v on the way. I already have two so in case I lose one I will still have two. Umm, does that make any sense? :zany :discguised

This one perfect so far as I can see. It drops smoothly and cuts through phone book paper like it was butter. I probably am not the best at observing the details like some of you though. Spyderco did a great job! :bug-red-white :usflag :bug-red-white

I agree with Vivi, the Military 2 Salt is a great choice, and I don't have Mongo Mitts! (very large hands) :winking-tongue

Re: Specifically, what does Spyderco do to fix stripped clip screw holes?

I pinched the screw with a pair of pliers to make it oblong. Then I screwed it in with some red locktite, and it has held for a year so far. The screw will kinda sorta make it's own threads.

These two just arrived today. The Metropolitan has a decent action, slightly lighter than the UKPK. It is M398, and slices phone book paper easily.

Re: Might've goofed up my Smock.....

Yep, remove the spring and ball and the knife still functions fine. There may be a couple of states that don't allow the blade to drop once you push the button in, so Spyderco is wisely covering all the bases. The Sage 6 has the same setup. Of course, hundreds of thousands of imports let the blade ...

Re: Might've goofed up my Smock.....

I have removed the spring and ball bearing on both my Smock's and it makes the action even slicker. On one of them I also replaced the bearings with ceramic bearings. It even seemed to me it was smoother with the ceramics, although that's probably just my imagination. Fret not, you didn't hurt a ...

Re: What are your top 5 Spydercos right now?

1) Military 2 in BBB 15V. One of the best overall knives I have ever used.
2) Dragonfly K390 Wharncliffe. The cardboard champion. Little workhorse.
3) Kapara. What a beautiful knife.
4) Native Chief. Another beautiful design.
5) Yojimbo. And yet another superb design. Useful in so many ways ...

Re: What is your all time favorite steel?

I love 15V. I have never had a factory edge cut so well and last as long as Sal and Shawn's CPM 15V. No rolling or chipping, ever. I live in Nevada so corrosion isn't an issue here, although I keep them waxed with Renaissance Wax. When it's time to sharpen, I have no problems using a fixed angle ...
