Re: A new spin on "HIC dropping soon"
What will happen with my busted blade? Well if I had powered diamond tooling, I would reshape the tip. It would take forever by hand. I am still scheming on this. Once I had the tip reshaped, I would be interested in experimenting with sharpening the edge. I expect the truth to be that this won't t...

Re: Show your Mule
For those that have made wooden handles, what size pins did you use? 4mm? 6mm? I could argue that the pins are almost useless. Their diameter isn't exactly for strength it's for looks. Let's just walk through together how we make full tang knives in my shop or anywhere really. It's not a very effic...

Cocobolo scales that are fresh off the buffing wheel. No finish or buffing compound, just sanded to 1000 grit then buffed with a raw cotton fabric wheel. You can see why this wood is so desirable. https://i.imgur.com/miVkvCC.mp4 Casper, what kind of fasteners are those? They appear to be flat or do...

Fresh set of Gabon Ebony scales I made on my HIC Mule. Last night I ordered some black screws so I can go full stealth 😎 https://i.imgur.com/nYorIiF.jpeg I like that. A lot. Get a few with the black screws if you don't mind so I know if I should switch over. I've wanted to use CF but I don't have a...

Carrying my “Bombshelled” M4 Shaman https://i.imgur.com/sXJS8Ue.jpeg Pretty cool, gives the Shaman a completely different look! How much shorter did the blade and the handle get? Is it a true "four finger only when using the choil"-knife now? The blade is now 3” from tip to the scales, an...

Re: Show your Mule
I have a good amount of experience making knife scales using a trim router/mini table setup, and have a few pieces of advice for you. You are correct that making small parts is inherently dangerous, so you really need to be careful and use extreme caution when doing this. I have been a cabinetmaker...

Re: Show your Mule
Well done Robin, looking good!! Thanks Paul, apparently it was good enough because I need to make another set already :grin-sweat Thicker this time. I might go nuts on chanfering ! PS : I love to see how precise I can be with my files, but these chanfers take too much time, I need a tool dedicated ...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?
Holy Christ man, THANK YOU for such a detailed response! Seriously. I typically have to engineer everything on my own, and definitely was not expecting that level of information from ya, so thanks man. I use a freehand system currently, but have been *****ing at it forever and this was in the "...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?
Here is my setup with the bar in vertical position for the contact wheel. This is before I did the horizontal mount for the platten. CasperFantone, what kind of scales are those on the Mule? They look fancy! The knife in the picture with the contact wheel is an M398 Mule that I converted to a liner...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?
Unfortunately I do not have access to a BESS tester, but might be willing to get one soon. Recently I built a guided sharpening system for my 2x72 that operates similar to a Tormek, and might start offering sharpening services to some friends that are professional chefs. I were to do that I’d like t...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?
I had what I consider a positive sharpening experience with the HIC Mule this evening and wanted to share what I learned along the way. When I first got this knife it wasn’t super sharp, but also not as bad as some people seem to have gotten. I was able to get it to the point it would shave arm hair...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
Maybe a silly question, but will the black color go throughout the blade or is just the outer part that is black? If grinding on the spine while fitting handles changes the color it might look odd... The color definitely goes all the way through. I’ve drilled two holes in mine and can say this with...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?
A question for those using belt sanders/grinders: Casper F uses the hard rubber wheel of his belt sander/grinder as his backstop. Captain Vege uses the metal platen (back plate) as his backstop. Can we discuss the advantages/disadvantages of each? The rubber wheel would be round with a little give ...

Re: MT40P – HIC Mule Team Dropping Soon!
Just to throw in, mine came sharp, not consistently sharp through the whole edge. Nothing like a new steel Spyderco. I appreciate the sharpening sharing going on here; I don’t have anything that would sharpen this yet but I was inclining towards a wheel with some sort yield to it and a very fine di...
