Re: Judge Throws Out Sham Bullet Forensics

As I said before:
- they usually have other statements, other data or witnesses
- you have to have had an opportunity to commit the crime

Yeah the interesting thing to me is that for all the scientific pomp of forensics and DNA evidence, most of it ends up being used as any other piece of ...

Re: Judge Throws Out Sham Bullet Forensics

Naperville, thank you for that info. I had no idea that they did not process all the DNA.
I thought that because it is so serious, the very lives of people, that they processed every bit of whatever sample they had. They need to be as meticulous and careful as possible.

For a paternity test ...

Re: wikipedia

Well, Wikipedia has faced such issues as a platform since it's inception, but I'm sure that YouTuber has much more accurate information. You can really tell by the no-nonsense title. Obviously nobody that would be bold enough to capitalize the word 'EXTREMISTS' unless they really know what they're ...

Most recent two posts not appearing at end of thread

I thought this was kinda strange. I noticed that a reply I had written wasn't in the thread after posting it. I assumed that something happened to the post in transit and that I would need to rewrite it, but then later noticed that the user (GarageBoy) that is said to have last posted in it, also ...

Re: Spyderco service really this bad

For what it’s worth I have had good luck with this set of Klein torx bits.

I think it is more important to ensure you are using the correct size bit as it’s easy to accidentally size down and still get some grip but leading to striping of the screw.

Yeah, I think sizing in ...

Re: Spyderco service really this bad

It bothers me how much people want to assume and insist this is the OP's fault. If they were trying to remove a screw that was installed at the factory, and it took so much torque before it could be backed out that it resulted in the Torx head stripping, that points way more to that screw being over ...

Wow, how cool! What are the odds? Imagine just randomly replying to a post like this and then having one of the integral parts of the company give a bunch of background AND hook you up with a part.

Re: Sharpness meter, The BESS.

I got one a long time ago when it was the KN100 prototype model.

I have been thinking about picking up one of the newer ones, but what I don't really like is that they have a "home", "pro" and "industrial" model and only the latter measures in better than 5 grams resolution--meaning you won't see a ...

Re: S90V Obsolete?

Hi Sterling, Mage,

I think the CATRA discussion might be better in it's own thread? Maybe we can get Larrin and Shawn to take part. Both Larrin and Spyderco have CATRA machines. Ours gets a lot of use. I think the CATRA machine is a good test, but like all tests, it is not perfect.

That ...

Re: S90V Obsolete?

I'm trying to figure out why I would bother with S90V steel when MagnaMax provides similar (if not superior) edge retention, and improved toughness & corrosion resistance. Can anyone offer a well founded argument for why S90V won't be fully obsolesced? Testing data and/or empirical data are ...

Re: What is the best steel for retaining high sharpness?

Rex 45. The fine grain structure and extremely high hardness gives it a very long lasting super scary edge in my experience. Rex 45 is pretty much all fine edge.

I have heard of rex 45 holding a good edge for a long time before, but only once. Have you used hap40 before? composition wise ...

3V seems like a pretty wild departure from the suggestion of 15V.

10V, K294 or T15 would be my suggestion.

Re: What is the best steel for retaining high sharpness?

Interestingly, Super Blue, AEB-L, and 52100 are all very low on the CATRA TCC scale, which is a measure of retaining sharpness. But then--you're not shaving abrasive impregnated cards, you're shaving your face. Which is probably a little different.

I guess my question is: Are you more interested ...

Re: Whats with all the fakes on ebay?

I find the notion that they're easy to spot to be preposterous. Half the time you see someone asking if one is a fake, someone will come in saying, "That's the most obvious fake I have ever seen! Look at the Spyderco logo, it's tilted half a degree too far to the left, how could you not tell it ...

Well, I don't remember for sure, but the one on the left looks like it's close to 400 series stainless steel, 440C by the carbon content? The one on the right looks pretty close to what I have been seeing listed as the composition for MagnaMax.

But outside of just maybe recognizing the compositions ...

Is there any shred of hope that pro knife MPs in Parliament can reverse this?

I doubt it. The gov' wants all blades off the street. There's been too many stabbings in the cities by teenagers killing each other. So the rest of us lose the ability to carry useful tools for needed jobs.
