Re: Shot Show recap, thoughts, things I learned
100% agreed. Also and especially that the Kapara would actually get a substantial upgrade with a good linerlock imo. What speaks for the linerlock is how "natural" and secure the knife remains in hand while operation of the lock as well as its completely idiotproof fingersafety on folders...

Re: Where Have all the Calys Gone?
Ya, no. https://i.imgur.com/Mm9gJS0.jpg The choil prevents the knife from being closed accidentally while open and the knife can be closed one-handed without the kind of risk a lockback entails. For those reasons (and that you cannot use ZDP in an agricultural context) I've used the UKPK more than ...

Re: Where Have all the Calys Gone?
Would be cool to see a new Caly3 but the UKPK has eclipsed it at this point IMO. One of the few designs that benefits from the removal of the locking mechanism.

Re: Any interest in a sprint/exclusive crucarta Gayle Bradley 1?
Interesting.. in what steel/handle combo would you be interested? I'm ambivalent in the sense that haven't used cruwear at all. I will say the (admittedly handsome) CF scales are too slick and micarta would be a great replacement. So does the GB1 have a choil? It's a sort of half choil, allows you ...

Re: Any interest in a sprint/exclusive crucarta Gayle Bradley 1?
Do other left handed guys have an issue with linerlocks? Liner locks are fine as long as there's an appropriate cutout on the other side/jimping. In fact they're (unfortunately) much easier to use than a compression lock. I picked up a GB1 recently because I regretted selling one years ago and it's...

Re: Spyderco Caribbean on Sale
May have been mentioned here before but it's pretty easy to improve the detent with a set of harbor freight dremel bits. Purchased a caribbean when they first were released. after a couple weeks I bought the bits (and did the filing by hand to avoid going overboard) as it felt a little concerning ca...

Re: Swick 5 ETA?
Just got my 5 PE in. Sheath retention feels more tactile and overall feels much closer in handling to the 5. I haven't seen any of the catching or wear I noticed with the 6SE. I think the chisel edge on the SE models is just more prone to catching on the interior of the sheath. As for the knife stil...

Re: Shipping of internal parts
Spyderco apparently is not interested in providing parts for their knives to their customers. Apple, in similar fashion, doesn't either. What really propelled Apple iphone sales was 3rd party accessories. Since Apple created uniquely designed products, these suppliers had to comply to Apple design ...

Re: Swick 5 ETA?
Given that Magnacut is being favourably compared to LC200N re: corrosion resistance would it be suitable for a Swick? I know next to nothing other than that it's the hot new steel on the block (and I'm very behind on these sort of things). IMO the Swick is great platform to test steels in more deman...

Re: G10 Chamfering, which model has the best?
From my limited experience I'd say the Caribbean. There's some very impressive attention to hotspots around the compression lock.

Re: Swick 5 ETA?
Glad I'm not waiting with bated breath I'd have passed out years ago. At this point I'm just hoping it launches in time to test one out this farming season.

Re: Swick 5 ETA?
Ditto on boltaron shavings when drawing the blade, especially at first. After a few hundred sheathings the fit seems to have settled, though I still get bits on rare occasion. Clicking it back in firmly with a slight twist gives best retention, and it appears to be impossible to shake it out. Yeah ...

Re: Swick 5 ETA?
https://i.imgur.com/wxZ6Zptl.jpg I caved and picked up a Swick 6 as I've been waiting for the 5 ever since its announcement & pestered Sal pre-LC200N about an 8cr or similar budget version for pruning tomatoes and other acidic plants. Perrin's desire for retention from his roofing work translat...

Re: More Left Handed Knives?
I'm of two minds on the subject- on one, I'd really like to see more LH models. It stings missing out- I'll always regret not being able to pick up a Spydiechef or Techno. On the other hand, the models I'd like to see available in more ambi configurations are either too niche to see a complete redes...
