Re: 3D printed Native 5 Lightweight scales

I think you misunderstood. That style of printing is known as FDM. It’s the common 3d printing technology for thermoplastics. The surface quality is not good relative to injection molding, CNC machining, and resin (SLA) printers. I see, yes I misunderstood. I don’t know that much about 3D printing....

Re: 3D printed Native 5 Lightweight scales

I'm all for 3D printing and make a lot of things for myself and others but not sure knife scales are something I really want. Certainly not using an FDM printer. With a resin printer you can at least print with enough detail that it looks well finished. You can even print things that can’t be injec...

Is there a STL file available for these?
You could contact Brody. His Instagram is @hipolydesigns.

But he is trying to start selling these so I don’t know that he would want to hand out an STL files that took months to design.

Re: 3D printed Native 5 Lightweight scales

Here is a couple of videos showing how smooth the action is with these. Even compression lock style flick closing is easy. I also like how the texture glimmers in sunlight. It’s subtle but nice.

3D printed Native 5 Lightweight scales

I have been carrying and testing a couple versions of 3D printed scales for the native 5 lightweight these past few weeks and I thought some of you might be interested in it, especially since it is still the only Spyderco in magnacut out there. Re: did somebody say magnacut manix...?!

I guess they will have to figure out galvanic corrosion with the ball bearing lock, or maybe they will choose a ceramic ball bearing?! I doubt it. As others have said it’s important to remember they are doing massive renovations and expansions to the golden factory where the manix is made so it coul...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

A lot of the benefits of SE vs PE don't apply when the PE knife is sharpened very coarse… That's why I went from being such a strong advocate of SE, to putting my enthusiasm behind very coarse PE edges. Because to me they offer most the advantages of SE (Cutting great even when dull, edges not slip...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

Hey friends. I’m thinking about trying serrations again. I had a se tenacious that I used to like but unfortunately the sharpmaker got lost in a move (I still haven’t recovered from that loss, I need to replace it.) and I tried sharpening the tenacious with a tapered DMT rod and proceeded to get ter...

I think both sides of the argument have made fair points. I'd like to keep the topic from de-railing now though please. Agreed. Back on topic I also find the method that cjk mentioned to be the most effective. Lock bar last is the fastest and most reliable way to put the seki lockbacks back togethe...

Re: Took Apart My Endura

Some of you guys should read about the grades of threads. Aerospace industry has threads that are incredibly precise. I suppose all the cheap taiwan reject screws are more money in sal's pocket. Ill change that opinion when spyderco stops selling me knives that have the screws fall out in one day, ...

Re: “Best” steels video with Larrin

Since we are on the topic of edge angles. I have been finding it more difficult to deburr an edge and prevent a wire edge the lower my angle is. I did about 12dps on VG10 last night and it seemed to have a perpetual wire edge or burr until I gave up and micro beveled at about 17dps. Any tips on debu...
