I live in Los Angeles, so blade length is the first consideration. If it is sub-3" I can carry it anywhere, but above 3" I only carry it at home, which is where I mostly use my knives.
Ergos is the second consideration. The Native family is perfection in my hands, with the Millie family close ...

Re: I might have figured out SPYDERCO Lock Rock and fixed it.
Like with so many other topics, I'm surprised at how much fuss there is over this subject.
Yeah, agreed.
I'm not worried that Spyderco is gonna eff with models that have been successful and beloved for decades, adding cost to manufacture and the resulting price increases, in order to address ...

Re: I might have figured out SPYDERCO Lock Rock and fixed it.
Hey Beg:
I think any of your fixes will be temporary, though I'd be glad to be wrong.
Mid backs don't offer the same leverage as tail backs due to shorter bars. Maybe there is a way to increase the leverage without changing the bar, but that is above my physics pay grade.
I think Vivi is right ...

Re: I might have figured out SPYDERCO Lock Rock and fixed it.
If someone has a comparison of Spyderco mid-backblocks to another brand *using mid-backlocks* rather than traditional backlocks then we might have something to talk about. Have I missed that?
Because comparing them to rear backlocks is pointless for obvious reasons.
I have 116 Spyderco mid ...

Re: I might have figured out SPYDERCO Lock Rock and fixed it.
Adding a stop pin would require retooling, particularly to FRN models which would require new molds, and add expense to the models. How much? No idea, but I'm not for changing designs that function perfectly as tools already, and would just make them more expensive. And perhaps I've missed it, but I ...

For me, the Native 5, in all it's variants, is perfect. I'd not want a thing to be changed.
As far as MagnaMax, I got a C-Note says it will replace Maxamet in the grey FRN LW variant in time.

Re: Shaman lightweight Salt
Hard to imagine a world where, in the fullness of time, we don't get a PM2 LW & Shaman LW in MagnaCut Salt variants. We have the Native 5 LW, Native Chief LW, PARA 3 LW, Manix 2 LW, UKPK LW, and even the Sage 5 LW already. If we ever get a Millie 2 LW and a Manix XL LW I'd imagine they would follow ...

Re: Spyderco 2026 Delivered and Upcoming
This is just slightly larger than a dragonfly, correct? About 1/2" or so longer.
I will cringe is some ways to pass it up, but that one is hard to accept, even with the quality of materials present.
The blade is about 1/4" longer.
The price for the production model is $300, so for the Elmax ...

Re: Association discounts/deals
Kristi,
I appreciate you stepping into clarify, but I must admit I am still confused. That's probably my own dumb fault though.
Let's say MAP for a model I want is $200.
Retailer A and B both have it listed for $200.
Retailer A will sell it to me for $200.
Retailer B will sell it to me for ...

Re: Association discounts/deals
I don't understand Spydercos stance saying retailers can sell for under MAP but can't let the customer know.
I'm not interested in rewards programs at all. I am interested in lower upfront costs, which is why I'd go to CKW or National Knives or DACK before BHQ or SMKW.
If they can't sell below ...

Re: What comes to mind when I hear BD1N
I have both SE and PE and they carry the bulk of my kitchen work. I keep a Native 5 Salt LC200N handy, and a VG10 Cooks Knife (sadly discontinued) for the rare big jobs I try to tackle. The Z-Cuts are amazing, and the BD1N steel is a big part of it.

Re: Native Blackhawk & Native Chief Renegade
I grabbed a Blackhawk from ACK because I had to see where my favorite knife, the Native 5, had come from.
If Sal did a N5 and a Chief with the bowie AND a hollow I'd buy them hard. FRN would be my preference, but I'd scoop up G10s as well.
To be clear, if Sal taped an Exacto blade to a #2 ...

Re: Finally got a Sharp Maker
I want to be clear that I do not hold myself out as an expert on sharpening. I don't enjoy sharpening but I must have sharp knives at all times, so the following represents what works for me. Better edges are possible, I know, but this gets me to where I need to be in a reasonable amount of time ...

Re: Association discounts/deals
I wanted to re-focus the discussion on the two essential points that TazKristi made.
First, the clarification on the policy, the concern over which spawned this discussion:
Dealers can sell for whatever they choose. MAP applies to advertised pricing, not final selling price.
Seems clear. I ...

Re: Spyderco Delivered and Upcoming *discussion*
Orders are placed many years in advance but dealers are not always required to pay in advance. In this case, they didn't. They placed the order then backed out after it was too late to halt production and BladeHQ was able to purchase the run.
Thanks, Nick!
I guess the next question is whether ...

Re: Spyderco Delivered and Upcoming *discussion*
It has been my understanding that dealer exclusives have to be ordered and paid for *in advance* - whether partial or full payment I don't know - and that the orders tend to run years in advance.
Is it possible that KnifeWorks sold this run to BHQ rather than wait to recoup from retail sales?
