Re: Random: General Spydie Chat
Has there been a recent change to the MAP policy, or to how it's enforced?
Several dealers that used to advertise at MAP but would sometimes sell lower through add to cart/user login/make an offer, now no longer appear to allow this.
Rumor has it some dealers are whining about it and ...

I reprofiled our Carter Itamae Petty and Nakiri when we got them and haven't had to even touch them up.
That was two years ago this Xmas.

Re: Sal, anything you´d like to share on the Golden made BACKLOCK Polestar? (Another "handle forward" knife?)
We do have protos of Polestar and Alcyone models in back-lock, Compression Lock and Cross bar locks.
We do have 2 new locks that have yet to see production. The modified "Stop-Lock" and the "Roto-Wedge" that are still in engineering refinement.
I'm also working on a test to get a comparison ...

Re: Kitchen knives
Personally I'm happy with the performance of my BD1N ZCuts. I'd be interested to see Spyderco make an entry level chef knife with that steel and a basic molded on handle.

Re: Why doesn't Spyderco help us avoid fakes?
Two words explain this:
Caveat Emptor
Ultimately, it is the buyer's responsibility, and yes, the best way to avoid it is to buy from reputable retailers.
It is impossible to police this kind of online fraud when the auction sites, like eBay, have no material interest in doing so. It becomes ...

Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
Bumping this, as it has been on my mind lately.
It should definitely be a golden model, and I'd go with a fluted Ti PM2, perhaps in MagnaMax. The PM2 has both Sal and Eric's makers marks, and it is arguably the most iconic Golden model.

Re: PM2 tip strength
PM2 & PARA3 have much thicker blade stock (0.145) than the Delica (0.098) and Endura/Endela (0.118).

Re: China
To get it back to China, I think the Value Line is the perfect place for a fixie filet knife. Very different from the Bow river and the Stok. Been decades since I fished, but the Wilson Bow River is probably the most used knife in our kitchen. My wife uses it every day and I only need to touch it up ...

Re: Sal, anything you´d like to share on the Golden made BACKLOCK Polestar? (Another "handle forward" knife?)
Hey Sal:
My preference would be Mid-Back. Comp lock in second place, but I'd absolutely grab it.
I love both models, but they are workers and I don't know that I'd go for a crossbar lock, especially if they had omega-style springs.
I carried the Polestar a lot before I got my first PM2. A Golden ...

Re: Sal, anything you´d like to share on the Golden made BACKLOCK Polestar? (Another "handle forward" knife?)
Probably the Ti. It was unexpected coming from China. Haven't grabbed one yet but almost certainly will.
Yeah I'm surprised. Spyderco the only company on the planet pairing titanium with 8CrMoV13 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Strange combo, I wonder if it's selling.
They did the Tenacious in CF a while back ...

Re: Sal, anything you´d like to share on the Golden made BACKLOCK Polestar? (Another "handle forward" knife?)
It appears that all the Ti Tenacious models are also made in China like the rest of the series, nothing in Golden that I'm seeing.
You're 100% right... did I imagine that those were being built in Golden? So strange.

Re: What is a "front flipper?"
I deploy both the Ikuchi and the Smock with a "regular flipper" index finger motion, but one *can* use the thumb "front flipper" motion. I guess that qualifies them as Front flippers.
Regular flipper tabs *cannot* be deployed with the thumb.
That's been my understanding, anyway...

Re: Mantra 4 hype thread
Like Zhyla, I'm a big fan of the Astute, and I also got Astute-like vibes from the Mantra 4. It's Eric designed, it has very thin stock, and it's in the Value Line so it isn't costly to try it out.

Re: Reveal 19 - Live!
I have no access to Spyderco spreadsheets, of course, but I have a C-Note that says the Value Line 8Cr folders like the Tenacious sell in numbers that dwarf most other models. That revenue helps sustain Spyderco, which allows Sal & Eric to give give us those limited Sprints in exotic steels that we ...

Re: Reveal 19 - Live!
Great Reveal! I'll be in for the Chief 15V BBB Sprint, all the Salts, and likely the Bodacious Sprint. My wife will want the Wilson Shelter Cove, for sure. Phil's Bow River is her most-used kitchen Knife!

Re: Compression Lock Models with Back Lock
The Mid-Back is my favorite, but the Comp is a close second. The Lil' Native was available in both Comp & Mid-Back for a while, but the Mid-back has gone disco now so I assume it didn't catch on enough.
I kinda feel that each model has the best lock for it right now, but if I could get a Mid-Back ...
