Re: Salt steels for pool/chlorinated water.?

I've enjoyed my LC200N Salt 2 Wharncliffe and UKPK so much that I'm hesitant to try anything new. Hot tubs, swimming pools, the ocean for a few years and I have yet to see a speck of rust on either. I'd love to know how Magnacut does in the same environment, all of my Magnacut knives have so many ot...

Re: MicroJimbo?

Just got a pair of these, quality is incredible. Everything about them is perfect, incredible quality when there are hundreds of things that can go wrong with a knife like this. The design is great. I am not a "flat grind good all other grinds bad" guy, but I really like the full flat grin...

Re: Bodacious Update?

I don't mean to be impatient (which is exactly what someone would say who was being impatient) but is there any hope that these will be out soon? Thanks in advance sal will usually post somewhere (sometimes) when he has received a production sample. That should give a decent estimation of a month o...

Re: Crucarta, what's going on?

All new factory knives: 1. Wash in hot water with a little bit of dish soap 2. Let air dry 3. Remove pivot screws 4. 1 drop of non-toxic Froglube between each PB washer and blade (easy to do because the pivot screws are gone leaving gaps to get oil into) 5. Clean and apply loctite to screw threads 6...

Re: Shaman thoughts

I dislike the shaman because it is entirely dependent on the choil to be comfortable in my hand. It feels awkward when held behind the choil.

This is why I am so looking forward to the Bodacious.

Re: Weird streaks/scratch in DLC?

Agreed that S30V doesn't necessarily benefit from a coating for corrosion resistance (although some users do benefit from the coating on S30V), but that blade is CPM CRUWEAR :winking-tongue. That changes everything. I wouldn't own uncoated cruwear, 3V, or any of the other not-quite-stainless steels...

Re: Weird streaks/scratch in DLC?

I honestly think it looks good, and vote that you just use it as it is. S30V doesn't need the coating to resist rust, it was always cosmetic in my opinion. My testing has shown the opposite. On a satin finished S30V knife with bare liners I can get rust to form in an afternoon of working outside in...

Re: Weird streaks/scratch in DLC?

That won't "buff out", will only get worse the more you mess with it. Sometimes metal gets embedded in the DLC finish, but that looks like the DLC finish itself was ground/sanded off. I honestly think it looks good, and vote that you just use it as it is. S30V doesn't need the coating to r...

Re: Does side to side blade play matter?

It bothers me, mostly because it either indicates that I failed to adjust the pivot properly, or on the pivot-bushing knives it means that something is out of spec and needs to be repaired. I find, consistently, that while a pivot might feel perfect after tightening just-right and loctiting in place...

I would love an original Ronin. It's smaller than the Ronin 2.

Re: Spyderco SLIPITs SE question

I love my serrated UKPK. LC200n works in the ocean or on dry land. I swapped the gross bright scales on mine for a set of black FRN standard ones and it is a great user. The serrated UKPK cuts better than plain edged versions, I believe because it is sooooo thin behind the edge thanks to the cutting...

Bodacious Update?

Sorry to be impatient, but are there any updates regarding the Bodacious?

I've never been so excited about a folder's release. I've carried a Military (S30V, S110V, and 52100) since 2005 or so, and I believe that the Bodacious will be replacing my Military as my EDC utility/steak knife.

Re: I don't care about stainless *Edited

I've never used a steel that works as well for a chopper as S7. I might be a "dumb people" for using it over a hatchet + machete but I find it & a folding saw a really convenient trail clearing combo. I'm sorry I didn't mean to insinuate that it is stupid to use anything but stainless...

For what it’s worth this is the National Western Stock Show. Spyderco posted it on Facebook, wonder if they will show or sell the Bodacious there.

Any update on this?

If they were made available at the show we could assume they'd be making their way to dealers soon.

Re: I don't care about stainless *Edited

When I lived in the North Woods I loved my 52100 Military. I liked how easy it was to sharpen, how sharp it got, how tough it was, and the patina looked awesome and was constantly changing. I also enjoyed using tool steels. Then, after trying Magnacut, CPM-154, Elmax and other balanced super stainle...

Re: Spyderco Military (New gen), wanting to get new scales, titanium or CF

If you like the light weight feel and balance of your Military, I'd advise against Titanium scales. The Military feels like it does because of the minimally framed G10 handles. I had one of the Titanium Frame-lock on one side, CF on the other and it felt terribly unbalanced.

Re: Your Ideal Folder for Hiking & Backpacking is....

S30V Military or UKPK in LC200N. Like an earlier poster said, the Military is surprisingly light for its size. Extremely efficient blade per ounce. Add in that you can operate it easily with gloves on it's my favorite hiking knife. If I'm really worried about weight, a UKPK in LC200N goes along but ...

I also prefer the S30V over S110V. Balanced steel is good because it is balanced, and Spyderco's S30V is great.

Good to see someone appreciate the real Military model.
