Re: Chaparral SE edge damage
Got a chip in mine when I twist cut a ziptie like a dope. Sharpened out after a while but only took one or two rounds on the rods to stop hanging up on whatever I cut. Lesson learned

I like the cut of your jib sir. If copyrights allow, I’d be partial to a Brotherhood of Steel logo.
With the new colored blade coatings there's going to be a lot of opportunities for themed knives, and the gamer nerd in me instantly thought about a blue and gold/bronze Fallout vault dweller ...

Re: Para3 cpm 15v BBB
Not sure if this thread is the right one. But it had the right title. I consider myself a Para 3 connoisseur. With that said I have seen a lot of Para 3 blades. Many have different steels and coatings. Some from time to time have uneven grinds or blemishes. So I don’t normally have any ...

Re: Para3 cpm 15v BBB
My action was stiff for the first day, but I oiled it and it’s fine now. As for the lock being a little sticky, it was for the first day or two, no problems since. No issues with the grind whatsoever, and the blade itself came sharp as ****.

There is that thread "The serrated Chaparral is pretty cool" (https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?p=1794073#p1794073)
I say: Really, "just" pretty cool?!?
This thing is unbelievably good, not only, but especially when it comes to sheer ...

Re: The serrated Chaparral is pretty cool
Got mine in about a week after Thanksgiving. Love it so far. The serration pattern is about perfect IMO; love that the teeth around rounded instead of pointed, and the space between, as well as the teeth, are shallow. They grab material aggressively, but doesn’t snag, allowing the blade to pass ...

Re: Best Western Novels
Very interesting books and stories, Doc and others.
Would this be a good "fusion read": If someone were to write a "Science Fiction Western" mix book? Say you take something like WarHammer but mix it with a Louis Lamour flavor, and you get the best of both worlds? Yea or no?
You could have a ...

Re: Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)
OK let me put it another way. Assuming it’s a folding knife from Spyderco - 🙈
1. What knife/steel from Spyderco would you sharpen to a 10 - 15 DPS or maybe as high as 17.5 DPS for medium/EDC use or lighter?
I’m especially looking for info on medium/EDC uses and Spyderco knife/steel you would ...

Re: Building a Custom Knife for Sal: CPM S60V
First step as a handmade custom knife maker is to select a pattern, I've been designing a kitchen knife pattern that has the same line flow and ergonomics of my trapper knife pattern which a enjoy considerably.

This would be an instant buy for me. The Para3 isn’t my favorite model, but if that’s the only sub three incher in 15v I’ll take it.

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Not to be annoying: but how large of a burr do you need? I saw some YouTube videos where the burr is so big they can break it off with their fingers. Mine never gets that large, no matter how much I sharpen on one side
I don't need a burr at all to get a knife sharp, technically nobody else ...

As a caveat to my statement above, the edge I got was able to shave small hairs off my arm. Probably sharp enough for any of my daily needs, I’m just curious about the science of sharpening and how to progress

Re: So, Sal, is the Caly3 model extinct ?!
It was suggested to make a sprint of the Calypso jr FRN with the fishscale scales. Any interest?

Absolutely! The fish-scale Caly Jr ZDP is one of my most carried knives. It's so light it just disappears, but has a very capable blade shape that gives a rather straight edge, but is at the ...

Thanks for the reply, Shawn, and especially for laying out your thinking. I agree for the most part. However, after playing around with Super Blue I have almost as much appreciation for the low(er) alloy carbon steels. The polished edges seem to hold up well and response brilliantly to a little ...
