Re: Spyderco hunting folder
I will be interested in one. Silky is great but I prefer Victorinox saw (have both). Of course, Victorinox knife blade is not adequate for the purpose. I wish Stretch XL salt was made from something harder, Magnacut or at least LC200N, sharpening in the middle of butchering or skinning is not always...

Re: MULE TEAM™ K294 MT36P
So long as you keep your blade and sheath clean and free from any prolonged exposure to excess moisture or acidity, this will be a much nicer format to experience these non-stainless steels, IMO. That is unfortunately, hard to do in our PNW during fall hunts. It's hard to believe how dry we are now...

Re: Deer Hunting Mule - current and recent steel choices
Steeltoez83, I will wait for your tests.
Like I said, I know M398 has great corrosion resistance and edge retention, but I am afraid it will chip on bones or break in joints

Re: Deer Hunting Mule - current and recent steel choices
I used to use cheap knives on deer until one day got an old black bear. That skin was bulletproof and acted like a sandpaper on all knives. The only knife that worked to the end and didn't get too blunt was my buddy's cold steel with 3v blade, but the design wasn't great. Anyway, got myself a custom...

Did anyone test (or experienced somehow) the corrosion resistance for the blade?

Re: Deer Hunting Mule - current and recent steel choices
My thought too. In a fixed knife, I tend to want a tougher blade. I did recently pick up a ZDP-Stretch 2 primarily as aback up knife for skinning and cleaning pigs. The ZDP doesn't dull near as quickly as my fixed blade did. I just don't use it for any prying or such. I have exactly this: ZDP-189 S...

Re: Deer Hunting Mule - current and recent steel choices
Magnacut would be ideal, but I missed that release. I am torn between M398 (which is still relatively easy to get) and AEBL, and think AEBL might be better being more tough

Re: Deer Hunting Mule - current and recent steel choices
Pretty much any mule is a good choice. Either of the 2 available would be a good choice. I am interested in the subject What about the corrosion resistance? I know AEB-L is good, but T15? I cut many deer, and cleaning the blade immediately is not always an option. Plus, I am in PNW, so I am often s...

Alternative sheaths for MT
Basically looking for inexpensive leather sheath, as I don't like the one offered. Someone suggested an Ottoza sheath from Amazon, I bought it, but it's way too big, the whole knife goes in there with the handle (3D halpern scales). If someone uses that sheath, how did you modify it? If someone boug...

Re: M4 Bow River?
It is a perfect knife design for many things: fishing, camping food prep, butchering. Even a slight steel improvement will make it very appealing.
I personally would buy it immediately.
