Re: "sharpener's steels"

For what it's worth, you do have to take many grains of salt with internet advice, but I also try to give people the benefit of the doubt more than usual on the internet. I feel if I made a YouTube video I wouldn't come across anything like I would in person, and I'd want someone to give me the chan...

Re: Blade HQ Mint Green M4 Manix LW

The factory edge on mine was blazing sharp, with a little stropping it would whittle a hair! But I used it around the workshop over the weekend cutting against a pretty dirty workbench and managed to get some reflections off the edge of I looked real close. All the excuse I needed! I tend to use dmt...

Re: Magnacut thin slicey lightweight frn

The chaparral seems like a good one! I don't imagine it's likely since it's point was to showcase *handle* materials, and xhp seems to be something they like on Taichung models. Can't really complain about that though! I've never had a knife reground, but it's been on my mind lately. I just really w...

How do you like the scales ? I have been waiting for a new run . MG2

They're really nice! I love that they delete the liners, the manix was too bulky and heavy for me otherwise. Now it's maybe not as feather light as the frn scales but almost!

This is after cutting some cooked chicken today, I always like the character though! Feels like the knife is growing with experience or something.

Re: Blade HQ Mint Green M4 Manix LW

Mine has one of the best factory edges I've seen. Spyderco generally does very well, but with a hit on 1m and 0.1m ginny juice on leather it's pretty hair whittle-y, maybe not what some can get but about as good as I've ever done with my own edges!

Re: I'm feeling manix

imresizer-1677888430682.jpg I was impatient, so I hit the washers with 1000 and 2500 grit sandpaper, that was pretty much the ticket! I can now snug the screws down an appropriate amount and the action seems almost about right. Maybe could use a tad more sanding, and I'm gonna put the ti cage, stif...

Re: I'm feeling manix

Update! Awt scales hit the mailbox today, they seem nice! But the journey continues. Got everything swapped over, and the action is still stuff as a board. Not the fault of the scales of course. I tried pulling it apart again and swapping the or...

Re: I'm feeling manix

I'd change the scales, sharpen it, and use it. Those scratches will keep you from babying it. Of course, you can easily polish those out, as has been noted. Don't sweat it. Use it. You make a good point too, this one will for sure not be babied. I'd consider a regrind more for the extreme performan...

Re: I'm feeling manix

if you were feeling especially adventurous, an acid wash is another potential option. If you go this route, it's best to wait until the blade is due for another sharpening, since it will need to be sharpened after a stonewash or acid wash anyway. S90V is a fantastic stainless steel option and it's ...

I bought a Rex 45 Manix two months ago from the secondary market and it was never sent
That sucks! I think my takeaway here is to just buy stuff new and beat it up myself. A rex45 manix might tempt me though, I haven't been able to get my hands on that stuff!

Re: I'm feeling manix

Second, the area circled is what I watch to see if a knife has been sharpened a lot and, consequently, if the edge is thickening. Yours has not been sharpened much, so it's got a lotta lotta miles left on it, by my reckoning. I would imagine a belt sharpener could take a lot more metal from the hee...

I'm feeling manix

I feel like I'm on a journey. I'll explain. I put up a shaman for trade on another forum, and decided to take a guy up on a put together manix 2 build. Black scales and liners, all blue titanium hardware, and an s90v blade out of a cutlery shop lightweight. It delivered today while I was at work and...

Pekka Tuominen! Always liked the nilakka and never snagged one. I know there where issues with zero ground s30v, but these days we have stuff like rex45 that would be great in a platform like that! I'm still amazed Spyderco was willing to even try that, now I'm kicking myself all over again haha Oh...

Re: High Carbide Microbevels

I do remember a time I tried to get k390 sharp again with just ceramics and pretty much couldn't. Once I got dmt plates out, good to go. Now that I've been also carrying some maxamet, my ceramic doublestuff is almost retired. My skill could be to blame, but using the right abrasives (basically alway...

Re: Reveal 12 Live!

I just really want to play with some 15v, since some of Shawn's videos got me hyped on high performance steels and edge geometry in the first place back in the day. His logo on the blade is so rad for Spyderco to do. That being said, the scramble for sprint runs is hectic and stressful and usually u...
