Very skilled sharpeners will get a better edge than the factory edge, for the rest of us we use the factory edge until it needs sharpening.
Thanks. That makes sense to me. I do a fairly decent job sharpening, especially with the SharpMaker. But I'll wait till it needs it first sharpening.

New Knife Sharpening?

Is it best to always sharpen a new knife that was just purchased to get optimal blade performance?

Para 3 for EDC

Hello Everyone Ive had my new Para 3 SE Cpm 45v knife for a couple weeks now and really like it. I was looking for an all around good working knife to open packages, tape cutting, letter opening, paracord, rope, plastic wrapping, and so forth. I did reprofile the serrations to round out the points t...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

I rounded off the points on my Para 3 serrated edge blade as suggested in this post and found that my blade cuts so much better. I was having too much snagging when cutting up boxes before rounding the points. Now the blade cuts smoother with no snagging. It’s great for opening up plastic packages, ...

What is the best angle for touching up a serrated blade?

Hello everyone, I have a triangle sharp maker and was wondering whether to use the 20 degree side or the 15 degree side to touch up a Spyderco serrated blade? I haven't needed to do it yet but was wondering for when I do. Of course I know that would be only on the side of the blade with the serratio...

Welcome aboard! The little knife with the scale release is called a Meerkat, and the lock is called a phantom lock. Lots of fun to hand to people and watch them trying to close it.
Thanks.

Re: New to Forum and Hollow Grind question

A good hollow grind is a superb cutter. The blade is thin with a thicker spine for strength. I usually love true hollow grinds (as opposed to a saber grind, which some confuse with it). My favorite skinning knife is hollow ground. Buck uses hollow grinds exclusively because of cutting performance, ...

Re: New to Forum and Hollow Grind question

Dear Dave: Welcome to the Spyderco Forum. I chose a hollow grind on the Yojimbo 2 for several reasons. First, it ensured great edge geometry for cutting performance and a long service life after multiple sharpenings. It also left lots of mass near the spine of the blade for high-speed openings--esp...

New to Forum and Hollow Grind question

Hello everyone, I've had Spyderco knives for years with my first one being a Delica in half serrated and half plain edge. Then I got two more Delica 4's in plain edge for defensive carry after I took defensive folding knife class about 18 years ago. The class was based on the "clip-it" kni...
