I'd like to see s60v get a redemption run. I've only used Shawn's heat treat with s60v so I've been spoiled in that regard.
That would be interesting.

Re: Survive knives

This is the type of information I was looking for from someone who works with the material. I can’t help but feel like dragging cpm magna-cut is just part of a marketing blitz for their knives in European grades of steel. Funny but all the noise about the steel is coming from the big players that s...

Re: Survive knives

Survive is a train wreck on Instagram. Plenty of claims made due to the steel and not his over pre-order. (And yes his pre-order price and timeline was way off the mark of being profitable or achievable without hiring staff) He doubled down blaming the steel which didn’t go down well. He was even o...

Re: How about a Salt/Magnacut Kapara?

Well, I guess my love for the Kapara is no secret, and I do realize that it is on the wrong production location for this to happen anytime soon. But considering that the Kapara was conceived as a folding food prep knife, wouldn't it just make sense to give it the Salt/Magnacut/FRN treatment? It wou...

Re: Survive knives

I have some older Survive knives in 20cv and 3v, and they've been super solid. Apparently they went downhill when they tried to scale up (unsuccessfully). My general impression from reading through things a while back is that I basically wouldn't trust them. They seem to be in the business of blami...

Survive knives

I work as a process development engineer for manufacturing and have been following the fiasco with Survive! knives, he’s been pretty adamant about blaming a specific steel for all sorts of delays and quality problems. However it would also seem to me that he tried to scale production without doing a...

Re: Charisma – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2024

The Spyderco Charisma was a new design that seemed to want to fly out of my lightbox. This was an impressively thin and lightweight folder. The cutting edge however, is almost as long as the edge found on a Paramilitary 2. The Charisma is thin and light enough to easily carry in a shirt pocket. I d...

Re: Sharpening my Spydercos. A simple question...

Hi Jmj, You have reached the threshold of edge type. When Gail and I were testing edges in the development of our Sharpmaker, we learned that a coarse edge cut more aggressively, bit a polished edge stayed sharp longer. Our solution was a polished serrated edge. Buy one of our K04 serrated kitchen ...

Re: Upping the price.

Easy to remedy knife price hikes - simply buy less. Restrict yourself to a couple of knives per year - consider ones that you “really” want instead of consuming every new release that is put in front of you like some kind of a mindless rampant, knife-eating Pac-Man. Quality over quantity brothers. ...

Re: Upping the price.

I’m not really convinced by your argument, increases in the cost of inputs for manufacturing is different from the federal inflation rate. Specific inputs can increase greater than the rate of inflation easily. Increasing costs of Labor, Abrasives, power, steel, tooling, manufacturing services, ect...

Re: Upping the price.

I think price increases in kind of inevetable, especially with the cost inputs going up. This inflation argument has been brought up a few dozen times in this thread, which is why I pieced together a graph of prices vs inflation in this comment . The only products on that graph tracking inflation a...
