Re: Upping the price.
It's what it's. Can't keep 'em from charging what they think they can get. On the other hand, I've definitely modified my buying habits. I seldom buy a NIB Spyderco just to try something new anymore. It has to be something I know I'll like. Or I'll wait for a sale, or buy used. More and more I'm buy...

Re: Montana Knife Company
I put heat-shrink tubing on my Speedgoat to try to make it useable for fishing or, really, anything. I also put a 15-degree edge on it, and it's now more than shaving sharp. I planned this as a trial run, since I really wanted yellow tubing but already had black on hand. You can see it's dimpled in ...

Often more than one knife per day. Seldom the same knife two days in a row.

Re: Black Linen Micarta instead CF/G-10 please
I just would love to see and buy next ethnic Spyderco, (maybe some another Shabaria sprint run?) with this material, instead g-10 or cf. Black or brown, polished linen micarta. Also I know that g-10 can be polished to get visually similar effect as micarta, but it's not the same feel. I couldn't ag...

Re: Love of the Nub
Since using the otherwise outstanding QuietCarry Drift, I will never again buy a folder with a nub-less choil. The corner where the choil meets the blade is even more pronounced than the one above, and it can, and definitely will, cut a less-than-careful finger, as I have proven. I'm talking about w...

If it persists, I'd use blue Loctite on the screws.

Re: Caribbean Adjustment?
Hey folks, got my new Caribbean in yesterday. Really like it. I noticed that the scales have a little play in them to an audible degree. I’m assuming the screws need tightening? What should I do to fix this? Get a torx set and tighten? Thanks for your help. Yes, tighten them. Weird that they're loo...

Re: Vote: Kick? Choil? Forward? Other?
I have "favorite" knives in all the categories, so I guess I don't care very much, and consider each knife on its own set of merits. I voted "forward," though, because if I were designing a knife from scratch I'd strive for what I think of as the handle-forward philosophy: as muc...

Re: Corrosion and Edge Retention
I live 400 yds from the beach. I haven't experienced this phenomenon personally, but it makes sense to me that it happens. In fact, I'd be surprised if it didn't happen. Probably the reason it hasn't happened to me, besides the fact I store my knives indoors with A/C, is that when I actually use a k...

Re: LC200N for mullet? Recommendation Needed
I definitely second the Waterway if you're interested in a fixie. I usually carry a Waterway (or MagnaCut Mule) and a Pacific Salt for fishing. Now that I have the Stretch, I'll probably carry it and the Waterway.

Re: LC200N for mullet? Recommendation Needed
Sorry the Stretch Salt didn't work out for you, DBCajun. My rationale considered that you mentioned wade fishing, and H1/H2 is the most corrosion-resistant steel in the lineup. Also, I wouldn't mind risking a $140 knife in the water, but $240... :thinking Your post made me check a dozen or so of my ...

Re: LC200N for mullet? Recommendation Needed
Thanks for the input, everyone. Coastal, thanks for turning me on to the Stretch 2 XL. The blade length might be better for fish than the Native. I think I’d get only an extra 1/2” from the Native over my Dfly. So something larger might be good for a dedicated fish knife, while my Dfly can be my da...

Really nice writeup!
Liner and frame locks are my favorites. But I like backlocks and CBBLs too.

Re: LC200N for mullet? Recommendation Needed
I would choose a Stretch 2 XL Salt or Pacific Salt in H1 or H2 if wade fishing is involved. Both are available in plain and serrated edges.
One of those would be my choice but, that said, LC200N or MagnaCut would do the job too. All three of those steels are easily up to the tasks you describe.

Re: New Tenacious Frame Lock in D2?
If zhyla is correct, this is an automatic buy.
I initially thought $200+, but then I remembered it's pretty easy to find decent Chinese D2 folders for around $50, so factor in Ti and the Spyderco brand, and I'm thinking $175...ish? At that price I'll wait for the holiday sale as well.

There are a few I might buy, depending on execution: Pac Salt, any Stretch, C36 Military, Waterway, Mule Team (Is there already a Mule Team shirt?)...
Probably not a Tenacious.

Re: Ok, could it be that LC200N fares better against Magnacut than some might think?
For some of my uses -- fishing, kayaking, beach wear, cycling -- a Salt steel is so desirable as to preclude using anything else. In the same blade shape, I enjoy the feel and appearance of the slightly heavier, hollow-ground H1/H2 blades compared to LC200N, and I trust the stronger tip more for my ...
