Re: Martial Arts Experiences Discussion Thread
Thanks a lot for your comments and sharing your experiences, Nick.
I haven't personally noticed any difference in rigidity in the hand position I use in axe hand strikes and the thumb out way of doing it. I've also seen some modern combatives instructors have their fingers fully extended ...

Re: Corrosion Reports
bead blasting needs to die out in the knife world. I learned 20 years ago never to buy bead blasted knives after having some Kershaws rust in my pocket after an hour.
I never understood the purpose or appeal of bead-blasting. I suppose it's an easy finish to apply, and therefore cheap. It's ...

Re: How well would a Manix 2 LW in BD1N resist corrosion in saltwater?
not a direct comparison, but i had a friend that forgot his manix xl in his waistband and took it in the ocean in hawaii. he then let it rust for about two weeks before i stole it from him to clean it. i was surprised at how well it held up and how easily it cleaned up after such abuse. pretty ...

How Many Techniques Should a Martial Arts School Teach?
https://youtu.be/E2PiNTAQMqE?si=7cyHBmuDl38Ph088
If, as he says, the average martial arts student today practices only 2 hours a week, that's insane to me. When I was training in martial arts schools, we had single classes that were longer ...

Re: Martial Arts Experiences Discussion Thread
Any idea about the differences between Fairbairn's various hand to hand combat books? From what I understand many are either the same book or information published under different names, often because they apparently went in and out of print, or are mostly the same.
Is there one that ...

Re: Corrosion Reports
Haven't gotten much feedback on a post I made asking about this so I thought I'd ask here, how do the Manix 2 LW's in BD1N stand up to salt water? This would mostly be a day at the beach, in and out of the water with it probably clipped to my trunks so also sweat.
I've gotten some feedback ...

Re: SD with a *modified* weapon?
The best legal strategy I've heard is to call the local PD and ask what their patrol officers carry, and then carry that. If you are carrying the same gun the police in your jurisdiction have decided is best for protecting the public, you have a pretty strong case that it's best for protecting you ...

I'm quite curious at this point, is there any reliable source of information that covers Fairbairn's general fighting system that he taught, or is there not really a good documented source of his principles. When looking for inspiration from men with experience in real fights he is on the ...

Re: How well would a Manix 2 LW in BD1N resist corrosion in saltwater?
Anyone have any info or direct experience with how the CBBL holds up? I was pretty sure the blade would be fine with just a wipe down with a clean cloth and a rinse off in tap water and dry off at the end of the day as other knives I've used this way, in VG10 for instance, have been, but was ...

Re: SD with a *modified* weapon?
What's the current thinking on carrying a modified or customized firearm for SD? Is it still conventional wisdom that, if you carry, it's best to carry an absolutely stock SD weapon? Decades ago I'd heard that, after an SD event, lawyers would imply that any modifications to a firearm indicated a ...

How well would a Manix 2 LW in BD1N resist corrosion in saltwater?
I'm thinking of using a Manix 2 LW in BD1N in saltwater, it would mostly be swimming type activity where I don't want to leave the knife on the beach. Was especially wondering how the lock mechanism would resist rusting. It seems like an area that might have a lot of areas subject to rusting and be ...
