Re: Canis showed up last night on Spyderco's site!!!

This "Canis" model would also make a great fixed blade version. The original RONIN was such a great SD fixed blade and I always thought that a slightly longer blade would have made it even better. I think Kelly McCann's Canis started life as a fixed blade design, and was only later made b...

Re: Canis showed up last night on Spyderco's site!!!

Why this knife was made in Taiwan I don't understand. It obviously raises the price on what should be a using knife. Instead as is it leans more toward an art/collector's piece. Something I have a feeling was not Kelly McCann's intention for the knife. Making it in Golden would have put it more in ...

Caught the end of the Untouchables tonight. Every hero needs a badazz sidekick. George Stone, Doc Holliday, Amos Burton, Job, Sundance, James Valentine; almost forgot the baddest sidekick, Kato. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nzp2kPQcg7I "You Got em?", "I got em". LOVE the stai...

Re: Martial Arts Experiences Discussion Thread

James, The problem with ASP Batons, besides legality, is how they're trained/taught/used by Law Enforcement, they don't have much wait so really can't generate "fluid Shock" the way our, HEAVY wood or solid polycarbonate batons good on the "non lethal" areas LE is taught and rest...

Thanks,
Nick

Re: Suburban Survival: Options? Tools & Supplies?

Have we actually made it to page two of a thread about survival without talking about guns?!? Lol. Seriously you'll probably need some and to know how to use them. Especially in a suburban environment. Where do you think all those pleasant desperate people from the cities are going to end up?

Re: Spyderco C09 CoPilot Varieties

Kicking this thread back up to the top again for some air. Glad you did. This valuable thread piqued my interest in the CoPilot, and as of today I have a one. Thanks to a fellow in Yokohama, I have an unused PE Yellowhorse-embellished one. #173. It sure is built solidly. Not a hint of blade-play in...

Sal, any chance you have some of drawings to show us, or just an update on the status of the new Co Pilot? Looks like people are interested. Thanks.

Re: Can we talk about the Yo2's tip problem?

At this point, for better or worse, justified or not, the Yojimbo is associated with having a fragile tip. I don't know if it should be addressed or not. There may be implications to caving to a particular faction of knife users. Design by committee is generally a pejorative for a reason. My 2 cent...

Re: Can we talk about the Yo2's tip problem?

I should start by saying I own two Yojimbo's and two Yojimbo 2"s. I'm very familiar with MBC, never trained in it but have seen many of the videos and am very familiar with it being a cut focused system if you will. But it's not ONLY cutting. I've also trained in Pikiti Tersia Kali, and was in ...

Re: Favorite small spyderco

Big Surprise.... The Co Pilot. I believe the first of Spyderco's small knives and the first to be called a "little big knife". I find the ergos much better than any of the other small knives even the Dragon Fly. Sal said he was working on a new model awhile back in a thread I started about...

Re: Martial Arts Experiences Discussion Thread

It sounds like you were and thanks for that. I'm truly surprised the Military or Police didn't scare them, did they ever get a good look at them? Although they generally didn't pay much mind to my knives, on a few occasions a co-worker asked if they could see the knife. It happened with a couple ma...

I'm in. Though I'm good with the original blade length Spyderco made. Some maroon micarta or G10 would be nice. And I'm in for the rest as well, lol.

Re: Martial Arts Experiences Discussion Thread

I’ve had experiences similar to Co Pilot’s where people get intimidated by a one-handed knife opening because they think you might have an automatic knife. It’s funny how opening the exact same knife slowly with two hands will get little to no reaction from the same people. I always carry two knive...
