Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)

I have an original military in S110V that I use just to test out the steel. Good knife but the liner lock is too cumbersome after using my PM2 on a regular carry. I have a Military 2 on the way tomorrow so I'll weigh it and compare to my original. I fee like it will be a wash. Overall it will be int...

Re: *Spydie Summer Sale 2023*

I just picked up a PM2 in M4 with custom scales from SMKW for $139.99. Amazing deal and they are currently still in stock.

I'm still holding my breath for this one. It will be the best purchase for this year I'm sure.

Re: PM2 Conundrum

Out of all my PM2s the Cruwear micarta is by far the most finicky. The screws tend to back off which means you need to adjust. Like said above the screws behind pivot is key. Once you finally find the perfect balance of opening/closing and blade play then take one screw out at a time and use loctite...

Re: Loctite vs Not?

I use blue tube loctite but not 100% of the time. It really depends on the clips and scales I'm swapping. If the knife is still breaking in then I'll go without a thread locker but one it's been used and I don't plan to disassemble for some time I do use loctite.

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

I'm a huge Spyderco fan and carry one most days. My only complaint, and it's a small one, is that the exclusives are very difficult to score. I guess that's the definition of exclusive but it can be an exercise in frustration to set your alarm, open every site that has them coming, only to miss out....

Re: Why is the Kapara so overlooked ?

My Kapara sees very regular carry rotation especially after fixing the main issue I originally had. That was to replace the slippery scales with RGT Tero Tuf. Great look with much improved grip.

Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?

I just finished a Manix 2 build this morning with Rockscale Ti scales, Flytainium ball cage, ceramic ball, Flytainium lanyard tube, and MXG Ti clip. One thing I did was install a light spring but it was so weak that the knife could be shaken open due to the light detent. I assembled, worked on the c...

Re: Paramilitary or Manix

PM2 for me and it really comes down to the preference for the compression lock over the CBBL. I have been using my Manix 2 more lately just to become more familiar with the knife since I do think it's going to grow on my over time.

Re: Taking apart knives - part 2

I recently disassembled my Kapara, at my own risk and responsibility, to swap the scales that have more grip than the stock CF. Very simple job and have always been very cautious about over-tightening. I cleaned, lubed, and reassembled and the action is amazing! I'm really impressed with the overall...

Re: KnifeCenter Manix 2 XL Cruwear/Smooth G10

For the price I couldn't resist so I pulled the trigger on an order this morning. If the smooth G10 is too slippery I'll pick up some aftermarket scales. First thing to do, when it arrives, is to swap for a deep pocket clip since there looks to be quite a bit of the knife above the pocket.

I just ordered one. I've been still beating on my CPM SPY27 that is performing well. Looking forward to another steel type to test out.

Re: Sharpening a Mule

Freehand or WE. Since I have a rather robust number of kitchen knives in my roll I tend to go to freehand unless I need to reprofile or thin.

Re: Who got the SRS13?

I scored one and just bolted on scales this morning. Goal is to use in the kitchen to start although I have multiple mid-range gyutos that see most of dinner prep but it will good to see how it performs as a general utility knife. From there I plan to use it outside with general landscaping and box ...

Re: Poll: Do you intend to purchase Mule Team 32P (SRS13)?

I plan to pick only one since my goal is to use the mule and compare the steel to my two others. In other words beat the "s" out of it and provide feedback on cutting performance (after a reprofile), durability, and how it sharpens on my water stones.

Re: Sharpening Magnacut

I was lucky enough to score a Magnacut from a gracious forum member. Like always I just started with a touch-up on my Sharpmaker just to clean up the edge. I've used it over the holidays mainly on cardboard due to all the Christmas boxes. So far it is holding a working edge very well. I'm back to wo...

Re: Magnacut Mule!!!

I planned well ahead. Ready to pull the trigger the second the mule was available and the website was unresponsive for over 30mins. Now I'm seeing them on ebay for >$200 which makes me question how this whole process is working for the people, like me, that just want to use and test the blade steel.

Re: Magnacut Mule!!!

Tried to pick one up this morning but the Spyderco site was non responsive. Finally was able to add one to my cart but by the time I went to check out it was out of stock even though it showed initially as available in my cart. I completely give up on this mule crap.
